A/N- This image is so beautiful but so sad. Also in this oneshot you're a sibling of Wei Wuxian.

LAN ZHAN COULDN'T bear it anymore.

After he had revealed to his clan that he was in love with Wei Wuxian, a man, they had all but disowned him. Even his brother, Lan Xichen, couldn't look at him without feeling disgusted. His uncle, Lan Quiren, the grandmaster of the clan, had flat out said that he was a Lan in name only now, that he wouldn't accept a man like him on the throne.

This hatred from everyone ruined Lan Zhan's mental health. He began to doubt himself and consider self-harm. He approached his brother, his only confidant in the past, and told him about his suicidal thoughts.

All Lan Xichen said was, "You've brought it on yourself, brother. I wish I could tell you that it will all be okay, but it won't. I can't comfort you by telling you lies, so I can't comfort you at all."

This was the last straw for Lan Zhan. He went to Lan Quiren, handed over his headband and his outer robes, and renounced his name and his rank in the Lan clan. From now on, he was just Wangji, not Lan Wangji.

After he did this, the entire Lan clan realized what a mistake they had made. They tried to get Lan Zhan back, but he wouldn't listen to them anymore. He took his guqin and left for Lotus Pier... for his love, Wei Ying, who he knew would accept him no matter what clan he was in and whatever name he took.

You were outside gardening with your sister Yanli when you saw the familiar figure of Lan Zhan coming towards you. He didn't look like he in was a good condition- his neat white robes were covered with dirt, and he was barely able to keep his head up. He was staggering towards you, shuffling his feet on the wooden pier. You noticed him start to fall, and you ran to him and laid your arms under his chest, catching him and then falling to the ground with him on top of you in a sodden, dirty heap.

It was when you got out from under him and he fervently apologized that you noticed how he was dressed. He wasn't wearing the outer robes of the Lan clan- in fact, he wasn't wearing any outer robes at all, which was considered improper- and his headband was gone. You knew what that meant.

Lan Wangji was no longer a member of the Lan clan of Gusu.

"Wangji, what happened?" you asked, shocked that the young man who had so much pride and spirit in his clan would renounce his name- his identity- so easily.

"W-Wei Y-Ying... t-they didn't approve o-of him... o-of our r-relationship."

Lan Zhan was gasping out his words, choking on his own tears. You wrapped your arms around him and felt how cold he was. Without his outer robes, he was freezing to death.

"Come inside," Yanli said, always the perceptive Shije.

Lan Zhan leaned on you and Yanli, letting you help him inside. When he saw Wei Ying standing in the courtyard, he rushed to him and held him, crying out his name repeatedly.

"Lan Zhan? What is it, Lan Zhan?" your brother said, sounding shocked.

"I-I'm not y-your Lan Zhan," Lan Zhan sobbed. "I-I'm just a... a failure..."

You knew from the look that Wei Ying was giving you that he didn't want you or Yanli to see what he and Lan Zhan were going to do. You gave him a nod, blew him a kiss, and left with your sister by your side. You could hear Lan Zhan crying and screaming from behind you, and prayed silently that he would feel better soon. You liked the boy, and when he was hurt, you felt bad.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At dinner that night, an extra place was made for Lan Zhan, who didn't want to eat very much but was coaxed to by a very loving, very clingy Wei Ying. After dinner was eaten, conversation around the table went to Lan Zhan's being disowned. The poor young man looked depressed hearing about his family, so you managed to convince Yanli, who was sitting next to him, to let you sit there and comfort him.

You laid your hand on his and whispered, "You're okay. It's alright."

He smiled at you and responded, "You're as perceptive as your other siblings. Thank you for comforting me."

"It's not a problem, Wangji," you said. "I do this with Ying when he's feeling anxious as well. It's just second nature."

"So," your clan leader, Jiang Fengman, said. "Lan Wangji has been disowned from the Lan clan for his relationship with Wei Wuxian. Should we let him stay with us, here at Lotus Pier?"

"Please," you heard Wei Ying whisper, tears in his eyes. "Please let my good Wangji stay here."

"I don't think so," one of the higher-ups in the clan said. "I don't want a disowned child polluting the perfect atmosphere of Lotus Pier."

"If his family disowned him, he must be a disappointment. I don't want Wangji anywhere near me, much less living with me," another Jiang clan member said.

Everyone's voices rang out, agreeing on the same thing.

Lan Wangji would not be welcome in Lotus Pier.

You heard Wei Ying burst into tears, and felt Lan Zhan's body shaking beneath your hand.

"I'm sorry, Wangji," you whispered to him, sincerely meaning what you said. "I'm so sorry. If it was my choice, I would let you stay with us."

"Y-you're too k-kind, Y/N... I-I'm just a disappointment... n-no wonder they d-don't want m-me..."

He burst into sobs, and the entire hall of Jiangs turned to look judgingly at him. You wrapped your arms around him, and Wei Ying held onto his hands tightly.

"Look what you've done!" you snapped. Never had you been more angry at your clan- your family- than you were in that moment.

"You've crushed his heart! How would you like it if your cruelty was the thing that drove him to kill himself!" you yelled.

Wei Ying winced and looked very uncomfortable at the possibility of the man he loved killing himself.

But it was definitely a distinct possibility.

"Y-Y/N... I-I..." Lan Zhan sobbed.

"Hush, Wangji. Don't try to speak. Just be silent. You'll only hurt yourself more by speaking," you cooed softly.

Yanli got out of her chair and stepped over to your side. So did your other brother, Jiang Cheng.

"We stand with Lan Wangji," Jiang Cheng said.

"Now and forever," Yanli added.

"He is the one I love," Wei Ying murmured.

Then, all together, you said: "If you reject him, you reject and disown us."

"We are the best children, the best disciples, in your clan at the moment," you told them.

"You won't want to lose us," Wei Ying said.

The leaders of the Jiang clan looked around, various emotions stenciled onto their faces. They were clearly shocked by the fact that so many of their strong disciples had vetoed their choice. You hoped that had led them to rethink their decision.

Finally, after many moments of eye contact, and many secret messages communicated through eyes and movements, Jiang Fengman spoke up.

"We have... rethought our decision," he said.

"As long as Lan Wangji abides by the rules of Lotus Pier, we shall accept him here," one of the other elders said.

This made the already stressed Lan Zhan cry in happiness.

"Thank you," he sobbed. "Thank you all for your kindness. I promise you, I'll repay you tenfold!"

Your eyes met his in that moment, and you gave him a sweet, sisterly smile.

"See?" you said. "I told you it would be alright."

With a loud cry, he threw his arms around you and didn't let go.

"I love you, sister," he said.

"I love you too, my brother Wangji."
