🏵️ Chapter 9🏵️: Terrible news.

Start from the beginning

"I'm all ears". I told him, diverting my attention to him. His face was suddenly looking sober and sad.

"You wanted to tell me something, love". I reminded him.

He sighed. "I don't know how to tell you this". He hesitated.

"Tell me anyhow. Remember that we promised each other on our wedding night that we would never hide anything from ourselves". I reminded him. His hand went through my hair, ruffling it gently, and he smiled.

"I wasn't planning to hide it from you but I'm just scared you wouldn't be able to take in the news".

"Come on, love. You know me better than that. I'm Eleanora. I can control my emotions especially happiness". I replied him, beating my hand to my chest.

I wasn't as bold as I just proved to be but if I hadn't done that, he wouldn't tell me what the news was and I was dying to know what it was.

As he was contemplating about the right words to use to tell me, I was busy thinking about how we were going to celebrate. Dure does this anytime he wants to tell me good news. He'd make all the atmosphere sad or make me feel I was the only one left in this world before he came over and told me the good news, turning the atmosphere immediately from sorrow or loneliness to joy.

  "Nora..."

"Yes?"

"Queen Tamara..." He trailed off again.

"Queen Tamara?... My grandmother. Did she come over to visit you? Or did she force you against your wish to come back home early... Grandma has been over excited about our wedding and she even commended you yesterday, when I went to visit her. She said-"

I saw his mouth move but I didn't hear what it said. Before his mouth finished moving, I interrupted him.

"Wait first! Let me tell you what she said about you yesterday. She said that she's glad that she allowed me to marry you. She was like you taught me everything they had wanted me to learn for years. It's funny though, how grandma thinks I'm naughty when she knew perfectly well who I took that attitude from". I said and gave a hearty laugh, remembering all those days grandma and I sighed a petition to Grandpa just so he could all us travel to a different country.

"Nora!" He said, holding me in place. "Stop behaving like this. It's cutting my heart!" He said, shaking me lightly.

"How am I behaving?... I'm just telling you what Grandma said yesterday. Infact, if not for Justin's visit yesterday, plus the fact that you were really busy over there, I wanted to tell you that we should pay a visit to Grandma before your next trip". I told him, smiling at him.

Then I released myself from his grip and walked forward turning my back at him "Just imagine what she'll say when she sees you come mainly to greet her".

"Eleanora! The dead can't come back" My husband said, more upset than he was before which got me more confused. I turned around and looked at him.

"Is that the name of a movie?... My love, you know I'm not a fan of movies". I told him.

"Nora, Queen Tamara passed away last night. She died in her sleep!" He suddenly announced, grabbing me by the shoulders and shaking me harder this time.

I felt the world stop. Nothing was moving. My husband seemed frozen, the butterfly flying by froze, everything was frozen and dead silent and the only thing I could hear was my heartbeat which was beating faster than a bomb that was about to explode.

Then the words echoed again in my ears.

Queen Tamara passed away last night! Queen Tamara passed away last night!!  Queen Tamara passed away last night!!!
