Chapter 18: We Use The Power Of Dance To Avoid A Prison Sentence

Start from the beginning

I hear a loud yawn and Cat Noir rests his head against me. He scoots closer as his soft blond hair falls across my right shoulder, begging for me to stroke it. He intertwines his long fingers with mine, turning my face into a tomato.

"Your hands are so beautiful, ma reine," he whispers, kissing my fingers gently.

I blush furiously, resisting the urge to snatch my hand back. "Quit it."

"Never," he mischievously grins. A loud purring noise starts emanating from him and my heart leaps into my throat.

Ladybug gags. "I'm gonna forget I saw that."

"I-I still can't believe they called us outlaws," I fume, regaining my stony expression despite the fact his purring's lulling me to sleep. "Sure, we made some mistakes, but at least we fixed them! Law's probably just mad I cracked his armor like an egg. And...stabbed him."

"Yeah, that was totally claw-some," Cat Noir nods as he nuzzles his head under my chin like a kitty. "But you're right. It's not fair. You can't just accuse someone without proof!" Cat Noir retorts.

"But-" I whisper.

But they had evidence. Videos. Witnesses. Photographs. Those officers have every right to target me after they saw that...demonic thing. I'm the one who put my team in danger. I'm the one who should be hunted, not my team.

"Hey Makwa, listen to me. Those officers are wrong to come after you," Cat Noir comforts. He wraps his tail around my wrist and squeezes my hand reassuringly. "Don't be so hard on yourself about what happened, okay?"

"What are you talking about?" I muster my fake smile to divert suspicion. "I'm fine, Cat Noir. There's nothing to-"

Ladybug shakes her head. "No, Makwa. Don't do that to yourself."

"Do what?"

"Try to face this alone," she finishes. "We're a team. We're sticking together no matter what happens." She laughs. "Even if you two lovebirds drive me insane with your annoying flirting."

I look at her, cracking a genuine smile. "Oh, thank you so much for dealing with our shenanigans. It must be such hard work."

She rolls her eyes with a small smirk. "Well, someone's gotta keep you two from eating each other's faces."

I smirk. "And someone's gotta keep you from ripping a certain blonde's head off."

Ladybug sticks her nose in the air. "I don't know what you're talking about."

Cat Noir's head shoots up from under my chin. "I'm not that blonde, right?"

"No, I always thought your hair was a nice shade of black," I sarcastically reply.

Cat Noir pauses, then laughs dryly. "Ha, ha." He gently moves his head from under my chin and stands up. "You know what we should do?"

Ladybug raises an eyebrow. "Sit down so the cops don't see us?"

He steps out from behind the chimney as his hand curls into a fist. "No. We should go and defend ourselves in a court of law! I'll speak out on your behalf, Berry Bear!"
