Jungkook had gotten more and more agitated as he read this part, seeming to embody Jin's words and actions perfectly.

When Jimin read the next line, neither him or Jungkook knew, in that moment, if he was Namjoon asking Jin, or Jimin asking Jungkook

"No, no.." Jungkook said, anguished suddenly, I'm not okay." He stood up and paced around the room suddenly, and Jimin found himself standing, wanting to respond to Jungkook, wanting to help calm him.

"Maybe this was a bad idea, you should go, this is too emotional for me, it's hard for me to do this, to see you, to talk and be normal, I'm used to being alone and working alone and this is a lot." Jungkook seemed to be talking to the air, rather than Jimin, as he paced, and Jimin felt concern and care for the young writer, opening his arms to embrace him.

"No," Jungkook shied away, "No, sorry, I'm..." He seemed, more and more, to be struggling to speak and started to shake his hands nervously. Jimin watched him, feeling helpless.

"I'm sorry, it was my fault for inviting you, I don't know why I thought this was a good idea. I have to be alone now." And with that, the writer walked into his bedroom and shut the door, leaving Jimin alone in the living room.

Jimin found himself shocked, and cast his eyes around the room, trying to process what had happened. His eyes landed on the dishes and wine glasses and he brought everything to the sink, and put the food in the fridge, before slipping out the door silently, hoping that things would be normal when he saw Jungkook tomorrow.

And indeed, when they met the next day at their first filming location at a local high school, Jungkook seemed normal. He discussed directing options with Yoongi as Jimin and Jiwoo and some of the other actors got makeup done.

Jiwoo was powerful, as she read for Jin, but Jimin couldn't help but remember the emotion with which Jungkook read the script last night. Jungkook kept calling cut, and re-watching the footage, and then he would try to explain to Jiwoo what he needed, but Jimin could see he struggled to articulate.

"You need to think about how he... she... feels in that moment. She is confused about who she is, and she feels something toward Namjoon that ..." he swallowed, "she can't control... that she can't integrate." Jungkook started to get agitated and pace around and Jimin recognized the signs when he was getting too overwhelmed to communicate well.

"Let's take a five minute break," called Jimin to the rest of the film crew, and with glances at Jimin and Jungkook, they nodded and broke into relaxed conversation and activity. Jimin drew close to the pacing writer. "Jungkook-ssi, are you okay?"

Jungkook met his eyes suddenly with a piercing stare, before dropping his gaze back to the floor. His voice dropped and he met Jimin's eyes intensely again. "I'm sorry about last night." He started to toggle the barbell in his left nipple. "I'm..." He swallowed nervously and met Jimin's eyes again before forcing out, "...I'm just kind of.... Ahm, I'm autistic, Jimin, and I've never done anything like this. It's a lot of people and a lot of... talking." Jungkook self-stimulated spastically, moving between flicking his nipple barbells and drumming his fingers against his palms, eyes flickering to Jimin's to catch his reaction to the label.

Jimin stared at him, continuously amazed and surprised by the young man.

"Um..." He swallowed, trying to collect his thoughts. "I think..." He thought about everything Jungkook was saying. "I think... you don't have to do things the same way anyone else does. You are brilliant, we can figure out your own way that works better for you." Jimin thought over, again, everything Jungkook had said. "You know, last night..." Jungkook met his eyes, nervously, "you were really good," Jimin told him, face serious. "You are a really good actor, Jungkook. At least with this script, reading against me, you are."

"You think?" The young writer was suddenly so obviously very young, and Jimin's heart melted toward him, wanting to take care of him.

"Yes, Jungkook-ah," he slipped into the familiar and watched Jungkook's face to see how he would feel about that, but he did not seem upset. "What if you just ...showed Jiwoo exactly what you wanted her to do. We could film the scene, you and me, and you could come and watch the footage and see if it's good and when it's just right, you can tell Jiwoo to do it just like that. And same with me."

"You are doing a great job at Namjoon," Jungkook said, "it's not you that needs help."

"She just doesn't understand you like I do, it's harder for her to read you." Jimin said, trying to be reassuring, hand on Jungkook's muscular arm suddenly.

"And how is it that you understand me, Park Jimin?" Jungkook was asking suddenly, eyes open wide with sincerity. Jimin's heart pounded and he met Jungkook's eyes, blushing. He realized that while anyone else would be flirting, Jungkook was actually asking him, waiting for an answer. Jimin swallowed and trying to articulate one.

"I'm not sure I do, Jungkook-ah, but apparently I am better than some." Jimin searched his friend's face. He doesn't know what a mystery he is, compared to most people, Jimin thought, heart pounding suddenly.

"Listen, get into the role! Go through hair and makeup! Become Jin!" Jimin encouraged him, "I bet this will be an easier way for you to direct. Show us what you want, you don't have to tell us."

Jungkook was silent, considering.

"Okay," he said quietly, and walked over to the stylists. Jimin watched him, happy suddenly that he had been able to calm the autistic writer. He thought about the label. It made sense, and yet Jimin realized in that moment that he had had a limited view, before now, of what autism even was. The writer was emotional, deeply attached to his relationships. He seemed to be aware of complex nonverbal information at the same time that he often seemed unable to communicate everything Jimin knew was inside his head. Imagine if I judged him only on what came out of him, instead of all the things that swirl inside, Jimin thought, realizing that autistic people may have been historically very underestimated. The alpha in him wanted to protect the boy, whom he had so easily, in a moment of compassion, slipped into familiar language toward.

And he didn't mind it, Jimin thought, heart beating happily.

Author Note:

Here I am publishing nice and early for a change!!  Hehe

Not sure what is cuter, Jungkookie coming out to Jimin as autistic or the fact that Jimin was already supporting his needs even before he knew the name for it.  🥺🥴😍

Do you think it will work out well for Jungkook to act out the direction in order to guide the actors, instead of trying to explain to them in words?

They are pretty cute acting their parts out 🥺🥺🥺

Next chapter Saturday morning!!

BORAHAE AND BE WELL LOVELY ARMYS!!
