What Now?

Chapter 36

Later that morning after everyone went off to do their expected tasks they met back up at the library with a few extra guests. Landon, Wade, Hope and Klaus had been in the library all day doing research. Lizzie and MG had been with Ethan, the sheriff's son looking for clues and reports to see if anyone new had been spotted or who they had as suspects for Alaric's killer and they brought Ethan back to the school with them. Kaleb and Jed had been snooping all day around the school and couldn't find the ascendant. Josie had been with Bonnie all day, and Caroline had been with her group of guys tackling several tasks.

About an hour passed where they were all catching up realizing that nobody really found anything. Caroline began pacing around the room but something caught her attention. She turned and looked at the encyclopedias on the bookshelf that were eye level and noticed they were out of order.  Her eyes widened, "Oh no." She said as she lifted her hands to cover her mouth.

As this happened Bonnie and Valerie both walked in  with confused looks on their faces. Caroline turned and saw them looking around.

"What's going on?" Hope asked as she stood up from her seat.

"I felt some type of pull here..." Bonnie said.

"I did too." Valerie added.

"That's because he's back." Caroline whispered.

"Who?" Klaus said vamping in front of Caroline holding her face with both hands trying to comfort her. His attention drifted to the encyclopedias that were out of order.

"Me." A man's voice boomed through the room as the library doors slammed shut behind him.

"Kai." Bonnie forced through gritted teeth.

"Hey Bonnie, miss me?" He smiled at her and flashed in front of her.

"Why are you here?" She snapped at him.

"Now wouldn't that ruin all the fun?" He tapped her nose and continued walking through the room. "I remember you! You were grey and disgusting last time I saw you, but at least you're not grey anymore."

"You're Kai Parker?" Valerie questioned as she studied his face.

"Ah, very good! And your name is..."

"Valerie Tulle." She responded though she didn't mean to.

"Very nice to meet you, Veronica! You're probably wondering why you're here..." There was an awkward silence as everyone waited to hear what he was going to say. "Oh. I'm not going to tell you, but just know I need you for now. Alive, so lucky you."

Caroline was standing in front of the kids and Klaus was right beside her. "How are you back?" She asked.

"Oh Carolyn. The best one night stand I never had, isn't that right wolf?" Kai laughed and then winked at Klaus who growled at Kai but Caroline held Klaus' hand so she could get answers before she let him kill Kai. "You're such a MILF. I might be into that. Anyways, I'm here for the kids! To catch up on Christmas and Birthdays and whatever other holidays I've missed." He rolled his eyes. "Also, I have a proposition." He sat down in a chair and put his feet up on the table.

"Wait. You killed my dad, didn't you?" Lizzie said as she tried to make her way to Kai, but was held back by Klaus and Caroline.

"Ding ding ding! Lucy is the winner!"

Before she realized what she was doing she started siphoning from Caroline and Klaus and then threw her arms out towards Kai in a fit of rage and then everyone was frozen except for her and Kai. "I didn't... I didn't do this..." she said with tears streaming down her face.
