"Someone has been in here." He grumbled to her, already leaving the side of the bed to go to her window. It was slightly opened, but she was used to leaving wind seep in when she got too hot under her covers, so there was nothing odd about that.
"Maybe Charlie o-or Bella came to get something.. Charlie takes care of my plant when I'm off.." She spared a glance at the dog who had followed them, and resisted the urge to pet it.
"No." He said roughly, running a hand through his hair. "It's a familiar scent. Same that was on the bodies.."
The girl stilled suddenly, fear wrapping itself around her heart and squeezing until she felt like she would throw up. "What?" Her voice shook.
Edward shook his head. "I don't understand. The wolves were here all night."
"Maybe they used speed?"
Edward sighed gruffly, his body naturally orbiting towards hers. "No. The wolves would have seen them. They're usually good at catching us even when we are running with vampire speed."
Tomi blinked to herself, and caught his hand that was inching closer to bring it to her lips. She kissed the edges of his fingers, clueless to her own actions, and breathed softly.
"Its odd. Carlisle says it might be because of the newborns' abnormal growth, but they don't smell like a typical vampire.." Her mate said to her, his eyes scouring her face as if she was of a beauty he'd never witnessed in his life.
"Actually," He muttered, stopping himself for a moment when their eyes met. "They smell more like you than me."
She was frowning now, the softness of her features gone in a sharpness that was purely horror. "What?"
"Okay, well, not really, aside from that certain smell..." He tilted his head and closed his eyes as if to recall it, taking a deep breath in. "Nature. Both of you share that."
"I'm... I'm lost." She confessed.
Edward shook his head a little more, and since neither of them had any experience in the department of newborns, her mate quickly just brushed it off. "I must be confused."
She didn't buy it, but still, she nodded. "You must be." She concluded.
Edward pressed their bodies close, and even if everything seemed scary once more, Tomi still managed a thin smile up at him. "I think I should get out of here."
"Good idea. Maybe go to the mall? There's plenty people there." He stroke her cheek with the gentleness of a thousand feathers. She knew he understood her, and even though he had doubtlessly read her mind, he wouldn't have needed it to tell she needed an afternoon to herself. Perhaps it was stupid to part now, especially with the looming threat, but she also knew that Alice would already be here if anything was to happen. Besides, police men and women would probably fill the halls of the mall, especially with the recent missings of teens.
"Yeah," She nodded at him. "I'll do that. Will you be here when I come back later?"
He laughed a dry chuckle, his bright white teeth showing as he gave her a wide smile that mocked her only slightly. "Me? Miss watching your dreams? Never."
She rolled her eyes and kicked herself up onto her tip toes to press her lips against his. "Drive me?"
"Of course."
