Byeol shut her sight tight controlling her building rage, she took a few slow deep breaths before glancing at Aera softly. A small sigh left her lip trying to proceed to stay calm keeping her anger dormant. "It was her again wasn't it. I swear to god I told you so many times. Report on her!"
"It's nothing really .. " Yet again she knew when the girl lies and when she doesn't . Byeol glanced at her best friend disappointed. Her eyes sloped down in the corners and she gritted her teeth tight. She lifted her head to see Aera who just gave her a reassuring smile.
not wanting to worry her friend she repeated her words again "it was nothing" but the tone of her voice sounded more like she was trying to convince herself rather than actually telling her true emotions.
Byeol sat at her own desk staring into the space in front of her. She changed the conversation knowing that they wouldn't get far into it. She didn't want her best friend to think about the torture she's always put through.
"Aera.... because we got our exam results back, do you want to crash over at mine?!"
"Are you sure?" Byeol vigorously nodded her head while smiling so hard that wrinkles were seen beside her eyes. Aera lips tugged upwards at the excited girl and took up the offer.

"Mum! I'm home!!" Aera walked into the living room and kitchen to searching for her but was only responded with an empty surrounding. She wasn't home yet. The girl pursed her lips and made her way up to her room.
Whispers of the breezy wind cooled down the hot summer afternoon. The chirrups of the birds and the passing cars sent out a peaceful environment leading the girl to close her eyes for a minute. Tiredness took over and she became more drowsy and dozed off unknowingly.

Clattering sound in the kitchen awakened the girl . It was 7pm
Aera tiptoed downstairs to see her mother walking towards the couch. She slumped on her seat and shut her eyes blocking out the bright LED lights shining down.
"Mum, I got my grades?"
"Hmm..." it sounded like she wasn't even paying attention to her daughter. " I got 2nd place. And I wanted to ask if I can have a sleepover at By-" Before the girl could finish a large clay vase hit her forehead making it smash into uncountable segments. The warmth of the red liquid took over her left eyebrow.
Excruciating pain along her forehead caused her to feel faint. Her eyes began dance around, dizzy, her legs had no energy to support her, she couldn't stand straight. Her right arm automatically grabbed onto the edge of the sofa preventing herself from collapsing.
"I DON'T CARE!!!" Her mum's voice screeched like chalk on a chalkboard making Aera involuntarily shut her eardrums away from the deafening sound.
"B-but I just wanted t-'' A flush of immense pain caused her to wince as her mother interrupted her again with a sharp slap across her cheek. She covered her stinging cheek with the palm of her hand. Teeth marks formed as she dug deep beneath the skin of her bottom lip holding back the urge to cry.
"I had a stressful day at work earning money for which I am having to spend on you so you can live. And what did you say? You want to hang out with your friends. And do what? Spend all the money that I have been earning you ungrateful child! We are becoming broke and it's all your fault. If it wasn't for you he wouldn't have died and we wouldn't be in this shithole!! Gosh I wish you were never born, you're just a waste of space !!"
The women walked back to the couch and settled down aggressively. Her elbows rested on her knees and her palms rubbed her bare face.
"Instead of standing there doing nothing, maybe go do some chores and make me some food. I'm hungry!! And also we are running out of money so we only cook one portion. You aren't eating anything for a while. Understand?" she hissed at the young girl.
"Yes mother" she instantly replied. Her existence was more like a servant than a daughter. Aera balanced herself onto her two feet and slowly dragging them towards the kitchen. Her pupils wandered around the ceiling preventing the salty tears from breaking past the glassy barrier.
It hurt. It really did. Her heart ached. It was painful how her own mother treats her like garbage. All she ever wanted is to be loved.
Is it really too much to ask for?
