"We didn't bully you. We just knew you'd be all bored and depressed if you went home by yourself." Jenna defended them.
"Yeah, like a lonely puppy." Keith added.
I reached forward from behind him and snatched his hat off of his head."Hey, gimme my hat back!"
"Make me."
He rolled his eyes and just started driving.
This club was of course in the not-so-rich part of town. The middle class area where I grew up. It was a large building with spray paint across the walls on each side and even some on the inside. Artists are in fact welcome to paint on the walls so they can't get in trouble for it. Artists if all kinds are welcome at this club to express themselves.
I felt I belonged here with the friends I've made these past six months living with Markus. I was happy hanging out with Jenna and her boyfriend, and I was excited to make a new friend tonight.
We exited Keith's car and approached the door where the bouncer stood to check IDs.
"Welcome back, Keith! Here with another banger for us tonight?" He asked in his gruff, deep and intimidating voice as he and Keith bumped fists.
"Definitely. You care to join me on stage this time?"
"Nah, I gotta man the door. Plus, I ain't got no talent." He shook his head.
"It's not about talent. It's about passion."
"Yeah, and that crowd will very passionately boo me off the stage."
Jenna and I laughed at his reply. Their conversation ended with Keith saying he was always welcome to showcase what he has. We entered the club, being greeted by loud music and flashing lights. It was dark minus the lights flashing on the dance floor and stage.
My heart use to race from fear every time I walked in here, but I've gotten use to the atmosphere. There were people chatting, eating, drinking, kissing, smoking, stuff you'd normally see people doing in a club. This club in particular allows people 18 and up.
I felt eyes on me for some reason, but I assumed it was normal for people to stare considering what I'm wearing. It felt different somehow. Like someone was staring with malice.
I ignored it since my imagination tend to get out of hand when I'm in big crowds and followed Jenna to the door that lead backstage."You nervous?" Keith asked.
"A little. But I'm fine." I smile.
"Cool. Can I please have my hat back now?"
"Nope. It's mine now- whoa!" I tackled me into the couch and held me down.
"Jen, take it from her!"
Jenna rushed to take the hat from my hand, which was being held down by Keith's strong hand.
"Now it's mine." She laughed victoriously.
"Don't do this, babe. You know what happens when you take my hat." Keith warned her when he got off of me. He walked towards her slowly, her laughter clearly indicating she was nervous. She walked backwards slowly before she tossed the hat over Keith's head.
"(Y/N), catch!"
I jumped and caught the hat in mid air and Keith shook his head."Seriously? Monkey in the middle?"
He made his way over to me and I three the hat back to Jenna. She jumped but missed the hat and it landed on someone else's head as they entered the backstage door.
"Uh oh." I said. Everyone was frozen as the figure stood there with Keith's hat covering their face. They slowly removed it and examined it for a second before looking up.
