One day, on the anniversary of his parents' death, 18 year old Bruce Wayne walked into the forest to think. He thought about his parents before they died. How happy they were before tragedy struck.

Suddenly, he was pulled out of his thought, but the sound of a twig snapping. He turned to look in that direction. He listened and heard someone talking. He walked in the direction, and saw a little girl watching a deer that was a few feet away. The girl had to be at least 3 or 4 years old. The deer looked at him, causing the girl to notice. She followed the deer's stare, her eyes landing on Bruce.

"Hi." She said, with an accent.

"Hi." He said. She glanced at the deer.

"Her name is Mina." She said. "I come to visit her when I am lonely." Bruce was surprised to hear big words coming from such a young child. She looked back to Bruce. She reached her hand out towards him. He slowly reached out and gently grabbed her hand. She pulled him over to the deer. "You have to be gentle. She gets scared easily." She reached her left hand out and patted the deer. She looked at Bruce. "You try." He slowly reached out and petted the deer. They smiled.

(Time Skip)

"Thanks for that." Bruce said, as they walked back to his house.

"No problem." She said.

"What's your name?" He asked.

"Laia." She said. "Yours?"

"Bruce." He said. She turned to Bruce and held out her hand for him to shake.

"Nice to meet you." She said. He chuckled and shook her hand.

"You too." He said.

"Laia!" They heard someone with an accent in the distance yell. They both turned and looked in the direction of the forest. "On aeg õhtusöögiks!"

"Tulen, ema!" Laia yelled. She turned back to Bruce. "That's my mama. She said it's time for dinner. I gotta go. Bye." She walked to the woods.

"Bye." Bruce said, as he watched the girldisappear into the woods.

Over many years, the two became very good friends, even though one was so much younger than the other. Although, one year, Bruce and Laia had a fight. The day after, her parents and her moved away. Bruce was heartbroken again. A few days later, Alfred walked into the living room. 27-year-old Bruce sat there, in his chair, staring out the window at the forest. He's been doing that every day since Laia left.

"Master Wayne." Alfred said.

"Yes?" Bruce asked, not looking away from the forest

"Yes?" Bruce asked, not looking away from the forest.

"I have some bad news, sir." Alfred said.

"What is it?" Bruce asked.

"It's Laia, sir." Alfred said. That got Bruce's attention. He looked over at Alfred.

"I'm afraid there's been an accident

"I'm afraid there's been an accident." Alfred said as he picked up the tv remote. Bruce stood up and quickly walked over to Alfred.

"Is she alright?" Bruce asked. Alfred didn't answer, frowning. All he did was turn on the tv and they looked over at it.

"I'm Michelle Leway, reporting from Metropolis live." The lady on the news said. "45 minutes ago, there was an explosion from the 3 floor of this apartment building. At least 20 residents have been declared dead, while 15 have been injured. 7 of the injured are in the emergency room right now. Among the residents was a European family from Estonia, Mr. & Mrs. Vaher with their 13 year old daughter. Unfortunately, they were the closest residents to the blast." Bruce's heart dropped into his stomach. "The parents have been declared dead, while their daughter's body hasn't been found yet. But authorities believe the daughter was immediately killed as soon as the blast started." Bruce couldn't believe it. The little girl who was his best friend, the only one who understood him, was dead. Once again, his heart was broken. "This is an unfortunate day for all of us. The authorities are calling today, The Metropolis tragedy. This is Michelle Leway, Metropolis news." That's how it ended. Or so he thought.
