CHAPTER 32- Gamble

"What is it that you want to discuss, Athena?" She pouted while looking at me. Naupo ako sa kabilang sofa na medyo malayo ang distansya namin sa isa't isa.

Aba, siya nga tong humabol sa akin kahapon from the University papunta sa bahay ni Samantha tapos ako pa ngayon ang mag uumpisa magsalita?

"Why did you chase me?" Walang atubili kong tanong sa kanya. Pinanood ko ang mukha niya kung magbabago ang expression niya but nothing happened.

"You're still my girlfriend, Athena. You aren't supposed to go out with any girls and most especially, you won't let other girl grind on you and kiss you." She expressionlessly told me. Nahihibang na ba siya?

"Who told you that we are still in a relationship? This is hypocrisy, Eira. You're going out with Lorenzo and ghosted me for two fucking months. I am trying to move on from you, can't you see?" Naiinis na sagot ko sa kanya. Ayoko sa lahat yung parang wala lang sa kanya yung mga pinagdaanan ko. Lahat ng sakit noong iniwan niya ako.

Umayos siya sa pagkakaupo niya at sumandal.

"One, I am not dating Lorenzo. Second, we never broke up. Third, I did not ghost you. I was busy with something." She raised her eyebrows on me.

Busy from fucking what?

"You know if you're just bored, wag ako, Professor Rodriguez. I am a busy person and pagod na ako sa laro mo. I fell in love with you and look at what you've done to me. I'm not a toy na pag nagsawa ka, iiwan mo. Pag gusto mo, babalikan mo. Helena is right. She warned me about you. But this fucking heart of mine chose you." Napapikit ako dahil sa sobrang inis ko sa kanya. I am just being brutally honest with her para alam niya.

Nagbago sigla ang expression niya. Mukhang nagalit siya sa narinig niya from me.

"Don't you ever fucking compare yourself to Helena." May diin ang pagkakasabi niya sa akin.

"Eh bakit? Hindi ba ganoon ang ginawa mo sa akin? Parehas kaming iniwan mo sa ere. And you're the only person who did that to me." Sagot ko sa kanya. Pinipigilan kong makatakas ang mga luha sa aking mga mata. I don't want to be weak in front of her.

"Can't you see what I've done? I chased you for goddamn sake! I won't include my cousins in order to have you back!" She closed her eyes and I can see her eyes are getting teary.

"What do you want from me, Eira? Bakit bigla mong naisipan na habulin ako? Tell me the fucking truth." Napatayo na ako dahil pinipigil ko ang sarili ko na magalit ng sobra sobra.

Tumayo na rin siya at pinakawala ang mga luha sa kanyang mga mata.

"You want to know the truth? The fucking truth?! I am so fucking scared, Athena. I was so busy with something to only realize that I am fucking losing you." Napaluhod siya habang humihikbi. I don't know if she is telling the truth. I want to believe her but part of me is saying no.

"Why were you so busy na hindi mo man lang ako kinausap sa loob ng dalawang buwan?! Why are you with Lorenzo?" Sunod sunod na tanong ko sa kanya. Gusto ko siyang intindihin but I want to know everything.

Tumingala siya and met my gaze. I am waiting for her answer. God knows how much I want her back but I want to know everything.

"Please believe me, Athena. I will tell you everything once it is done. I can't tell you at the moment but-" Naputol ang sasabihin niya ng bigla akong magsalita.

"For fuck sake, Eira!" Humiyaw na ako sa kanya. "Why can't you tell me? Girlfriend mo ako diba? Ano ba ako sa'yo? Bakit ang dami mong tinatago sa akin?!" Hindi ko napigilan ang sarili ko na sabunutan ang sarili kong buhok because of my frustrations.

Nilapitan niya ako at niyakap ng mahigpit.

"Ssshh.. don't do that to yourself baby.." Bulong niya sa akin. Tangina, I feel weak. Huminahon ako dahil sa mainit na yakap niya. Siya lang talaga ang nagpapakalma sa akin.

"You're too important to me, Athena and I can't let you go." She kissed my forehead and helped myself to calm down. "Please trust me on this. Give me time before your graduation and I will tell everything to you."

Kumawala ako sa mga yakap niya at tinitigan siya.

"Do you love me?" I asked her out of nowhere. Ito ang pinaka ayaw kong itanong sa kanya but I have to. Parehas kaming nagkakasakitan. Nararamdaman ko ang pagmamahal niya but I want to hear it.

She stared at me and I patiently waited for her response.

"Hindi mo ba nararamdaman? Gustong gusto kita, Athena." 

Bullshit.

"We can't be together, Eira. I can't afford to be in a relationship with secrets. Our relationship caused me trauma after you left me. You can't even say that you love me." I feel bad saying those things to her but now, I am choosing myself. Natatakot ako na baka iwan niya ako ulit pag binigyan ko siya ng chance.

A tear came out of her right eye. Halatang nasaktan ko siya sa sinabi ko.

"If you're ready to tell me the truth at the right time and if you're lucky if I am still available then we will see if we are really meant to be with each other." Dahan dahan akong lumayo sa kanya habang nakikita siyang umiiyak.

She is so heart broken.

"Don't worry, Eira. I am still in love with you. I hope you're ready to tell me everything soon."

I went out of her house and left her. I called a taxi and went home.

I hope I made the right decision because this is what I know the best for us. Open pa rin ang puso ko sa kanya but I don't want complications.

I've learned that hindi dapat puso ang pinapairal dapat pati ang utak. Kasi kung palaging puso ang sinusunod ko, palagi akong matatalo.

I hope Eira is ready to tell me everything. I wish she is telling the truth because I had the best eight months with her. Those memories will be forever cherished and will always be in my heart.

Pagbaba ko ng taxi, nakita ko ang mga sasakyan ni Steven and Matthew

Sinalubong ako agad ng dalawa. Bakit sila nandito? They should be at school.

"Where have you been, Athena? We were trying to contact you and Carina answered your phone." Sunod sunod na bitaw ni Steven.

"I took care of something, Steven. Why are you guys here?" Tanong ko sa kanila dahil mukhang tensyonado sila.

Biglang nagsalita yung driver ng taxi sa likod ko.

"Miss, yung bayad niyo baka nalimutan niyo na!" Sigaw nung driver sa likod ko.

Pinuntahan ito ni Matthew at nag-abot ng Php 1,000.

"Naku, sir. Maraming salamat!" Yun na lamang ang narinig ko at pinaharurot na ng driver ang kanyang taxi.

Lumapit sa akin si Matthew at parehas ko silang hinihintay magsalita.

"Chinee has been kidnapped." Matthew blurted out.
