Nightmare World III

Start from the beginning

I had no doubt that they still had a multitude of labs and other smaller bases scattered around the region, just like in Veilstone. We were still no closer to tracking them down but I felt we were making good progress.

We had already taken care of their business at Solaceon Ruins, Mount Stark, Pastoria City and now Sunyshore. But even then, we didn't know how deep their roots ran, especially now that they had the help of three more terrorist organisations.

"Right, so we should head over there next. That's our best bet." Elaine spoke up, setting the new course for the group.

"Actually, I've been thinking about something." May spoke up, lifting her gaze from the pebbles underfoot. Her cerulean blue eyes were glowing a deep steeled grey under the setting sun. I looked from her across to Red, connecting the dots. "I should go after Team Magma and Team Aqua, we can't let them run loose around Sinnoh."

"Wh- May, it's crazy to go after them alone. I know you did it before but this is different." Elaine spoke up, unsure if it was a good idea to let May go alone.

The brunette shook her head slightly, undeterred, "Yeah I know it's different but with the team I have now, I feel like I can't lose. Besides if things get too rough, I'll meet you all back at Celestic Town."

Just when it looked like that was that, Red stepped forward, his face mirroring the brunette opposite him. "..."

"You too Red? Man, I don't know how you guys do it." Elaine admitted defeat, knowing that she couldn't persuade either of the two elite trainers.

I had no qualms letting them go alone, knowing that they both stood where I did a few years ago. In fact, all I could do was smile at the four trainers before me. Over the weeks we had spent together, some arriving later than others, the five of us had become a close knit group and it was hard to imagine us going back to what we used to be.

"Don't worry Elaine, we've still got tonight with you guys. But tomorrow, I'm out of here early, I'm not letting Team Magma or Team Aqua get away with what they've done." May's face warmed up, her characteristic smile returning as her eyes faded to their usual azure blue.

"Yeah, you're right. We should make the most of tonight while it lasts."

"So you've returned."

An unfamiliar voice shook me from my thoughts, waking me from my sleep. As far as I remembered, I had fallen asleep beside Elaine at the pokemon center but now that I was waking up, I could see that I was clearly not there anymore. My eyes wandered around the unfamiliar room, seeing that everything was tinted with a greyscale light.

I immediately recognised where I was, feeling the rigid mattress beneath me. A heavy dark presence floated in front of me and as I sat up, I looked into the pokemon's opalescent blue eyes seeing a familiar smirk on Darkrai's face.

"Yeah, it's not like I have a choice where I wake up anymore."

I stood up from the bed, stretching as I felt the waves of fatigue wash away. Even though I fell asleep in a comfortable bed beside a beautiful girl, my body didn't feel that way.

"So? You called?" I shoved my hands in my pockets, awaiting a response and sure enough, Darkrai answered.

The dark type lifted his arm, a glowing white page appearing in its palm. As the light faded, the page floated toward me, landing in my open hand. I quickly recognised it as part of the same book that held all of the other pages Darkrai had shown to me.

My eyes flared up in the greyed out room, glowing their usual bright gold. I translated as I read out, "Newmoon Island. The fabled gateway between the pokemon world and Darkrai's world of nightmares. Only the most experienced trainers have been able to locate this island as it only appears under the night of the new moon and even then, many trainers lose themselves in the endless ocean."

"This is a really shit party invite. I mean it sounds like the island isn't even meant to be found." I spoke up, voicing my thoughts on the matter. From what I had read, it was clear that Darkrai was trying to show me where my next destination would be. I held the page in my hand as I looked over to the dark type who only stared blankly at me.

I looked over to the table, seeing the other pages that I had been given, all lying there face up. I walked over to the table, setting the page next to the other three. Now that there were four pages, they all seemed to glow a slight purple. Unsure if it was me or something else, I looked over to Darkrai who simply shrugged. The nightmare pokemon floated over to me, motioning to the pages on the table.

I followed his gaze, looking back to the table. I rearranged the pages, shifting them around in an attempt to learn something from them. After a while, the four pages were placed in a diamond shape, each glowing more intensely than before. Then all of a sudden, the four pages were engulfed in a dark purple light and as the glow faded, a single page was revealed.

Slowly I leaned in, taking a closer look at the page, seeing that it was complete with information about the dark type floating beside me. I took the complete page in my hand, realising that I now had the same page that would have been a part of the original book about mythical pokemon.

"Wait so if this is the original page, then-" I cut myself off, remembering back to Cynthia's grandmother's book, more specifically, the complete page about Heatran and how it tied back to the Alpha pokemon.

Without saying another word, I turned to the page in my hand, lifting it up to the greyed out light. Words that hadn't appeared on the pages before, began to translate themselves as my eyes flared up under the grey light.

"The Alpha pokemon preceded existence and succeeds eternity. Only when a pokemon has their heart opened truly, will the Alpha pokemon emerge from its dream state."

And there it was. The second piece of information I needed to fill the ever growing puzzle.
