It was morning as Lau was reading the newspaper. "Jack the Ripper strikes again?" He said. "So that means the Viscount wasn't our man?" Madam Red said as Ciel banged his hands on his table, sweat-dropping

'Looks like my intuition was right' You thought as you and Sebastian's face turned serious

The sky was no longer sunny as it was raining heavily

"This is no time to be playing chess" Ciel said as Madam Red moved a pawn. "Working obsessively at it will lead to no good. Why not leave everything to Sebastian and Y/N?" Madam Red said

"Both of them are just my chess pieces. For Sebastian, I'm the one who moves him by giving him orders. For Y/N, she has no choice but to listen to my orders." Ciel said

"But both of them aren't just ordinary chess pieces. They can both advance as many squares as they like at once like this" Ciel said as he took both of his knights and knocked Madam Red's king

"That's against the rules!" Madam red said as she placed her king back onto the chessboard as Ciel placed his hands together

"Yes. If this were a game, it would be. But rules have no meaning in this world" Ciel exclaimed

"There are always knights who break the rules, and pawns who betray. If you let your guard down before you know it... it's checkmate" Ciel said as he placed his knight

"You must've had other choices in life besides being in the underworld's guard dog. My sister.. Your mother must've wanted something else for you, to... and yet you returned to the underworld..." Madam Red said

"Is it because you're trying to avenge your parents' murder?" Madam Red said as Ciel drank his tea. "Revenge won't bring the dead back, and it certainly won't make them happy. But..." Ciel said before continuing

"I didn't come back to the house of Phantomhive for my predecessors' sakes. I did it for me" Ciel said proudly

'I just want to make the people who betrayed and defiled my family suffer the same humiliation and pain that I suffered" Ciel said before Madam Red lowered her head down with a smile

"I still remember the day you were born" Madam Red said, as she got up and went towards Ciel before continuing. "You were so tiny and so cute, I thought: 'I have to protect him'" She said as she placed her head onto Ciel's head before continuing (a/n: help im crying wha-)

"I wasn't able to have a child, but I think of you as my own son. I wish you'd leave the under-" She said before Ciel took her hand from his head. "Being here now is something I wanted, and something I chose"

"I don't regret it and I can't let anyone spoil me" Ciel said as he faced eye contact with Madam Red

You got Madam Red's coat as you placed it onto her and as Sebastian was about to open the door, Madam Red responded

"You don't have to escort me, Sebastian" She said as Sebastian replied. "But my lady-"

"Both of you, please don't leave that boy's side. Make sure he doesn't stray from the path and get lost" She said as you and Sebastian nodded

'I'm sorry Madam Red, but I can't keep that promise' You thought

"Fear not, we shall stay by his side and protect him to the end" You said as Sebastian, revealing Grell, holding an umbrella. "I've come for you, my lady" He said

You and Sebastian then went inside Ciel's room. "Well?" Ciel said as you responded. "No matter how many times we examine it, the result is the same" You said, going through papers

"The viscount had nothing to do with yesterday's murder" Ciel said as Sebastian responded. "Indeed, none of the humans inside his mansion could have done it"

"Quite... None of the humans there..." Ciel mumbled before continuing. "Anyway, tomorrow we'll-" Ciel said as his eyes widen before looking at the both of you

"Sebastian! Y/N! Don't tell me you two..." He said as Sebastian responded. "I told you over and over, I do not tell lies" Sebastian as he smirked. You then continued

"Involved in medicine, ties to secret societies or black magic, and no alibi for the nights before the bodies were found. The only human that fits those areas is the Viscount Druitt" You said with a smirk

"Was both of your investigations just a farce, then?!" Ciel exclaimed. "You see, a Phantomhive Maid who can't do this much isn't worth their salt" You said, with an eye closed smile

"And as you know, I'm simply one hell of a butler" Sebastian said, mimicking your closed smile. "We simply carry out our master's orders and instructions" You said as that smile slowly turned into a smirk

You then threw the papers. "With one order from you, we can become your pawns or your swords, now.." You said before you and Sebastian talked in unison

"Put the villain in check, master"
