Ch.16 "A Very Miserable Birthday"

Start from the beginning

"He shouldn't, it wasn't my fault."

"I know, but he won't understand. You know how Garmadon is. You've been living in the volcano for how many years now?"

"Since I was four, so like twelve years or something."

"Dang, that's a long time." He asked "By the way...I wanted to ask you this for a while..."

"What is it?"

He hesitated then asked "How did you end up getting raised by Garmadon? All I know is that you're not his daughter and that you're in the volcano to train to become a general, so how did you meet him?"

I put down the bite I was going to take. I looked at Brandon, should I tell him? I mean, there's no harm in that. But it hurts me every time I think about that day. I told Lloyd who was going to take my spot at being a general, so why not? I made my decision and started telling him the story.

"It happened during the first Garmadon attack. I was four years old at that time, and it was my birthday that day..."

~Flashback~

"Come on, sweetie. Blow out the candles." Y/n's mom told her, sitting next to Y/n's father around the restaurant table.

"Okay!" Y/n tried to reach the candles, but the fire was out before she could even blow on them. "Hey!"

"Sorry," Y/n's older brother said, definitely not sorry.

"Mom!"

"It's okay. Here, I'll light them up again," Y/n's mom lit the candles again.

Y/n's dad said "Make a wish."

Y/n thought then blew the candles.

"What did you wish for?" her mom asked.

"It better not be a unicorn, because they don't exist."

"____! Don't say that!"

"It's okay mom, I know they're not real, I'm not a child anymore."

"You're four," Y/n's brother interrupted, again, without permission.

"You're nine years old yourself, that is not old either," their dad joined the conversation.

"I wished for-" before little Y/n could say her wish. A giant shark mech appeared in the city, scaring everybody in the restaurant who were looking through the restaurant's glass wall.

The mech started attacking the city and a big army of people wearing shark outfits joined in, bringing more fear.

"Let's get out of here, quickly!" Y/n dad said, lifting up Y/n and ready to leave.

"But my cake-"

"We'll get you another one later, let's go!"

The four of them ran down the stairs a few seconds before the floor they were in got wrecked and the glass shattered everywhere.

The ground floor was getting attacked by the shark army, blocking the main door. So everyone ran to the back exit and started looking for somewhere safe. But of course, nowhere was safe at that moment.

"Hello," a shark general approached the family and started attacking with a sword

"Run!" Y/n's dad told his family after giving Y/n to her mom so he could hold the general off.

Y/n, her mom and her brother ran as everything was in chaos. People screaming for help, buildings getting destroyed and a bunch of kids crying.

A bomb exploded near the three and they fell to the ground. When everything was clear again, Y/n ran to her mom who was lying motionless on the ground. All her mom could say was "Leave," before she -hopefully- just passed out.

"No! I can't leave you!"

"Y/n, we have to go!" her brother held her, ready to take her and run away.

She pushed his hand away "No! We can't leave mom and dad!"

"Well, you left me no other choice," he carried her over his shoulder and started running away. While Y/n was hitting him and screaming for her mom whose body was still on the ground.

Y/n and her brother hid in an alleyway. "Don't make a noise," her brother warned.

"But!"

He put his hand on her mouth to keep her silent. A shark general nearby said to another "Did you hear that?"

"No."

"I'll go check," he started approaching the alleyway.

Y/n's brother held her from her shoulders and whispered "Listen to me. Go hide behind these boxes and never get out unless I say so."

"What about you?"

"I'll be fine, I'll find another hiding spot. Again, don't ever come out unless I tell you to. Got it?"

She nodded and went to hide. But her poor brother didn't have enough time as the shark general found him. "What are you doing here, kid?"

"Uhh...nothing?"

"Well, I guess you won't mind coming with me then."

Y/n's brother took a step back and quickly glanced at his sister to make sure she's safe.

"What are you looking at?"

"Nothing!"

"Then let's go," he said and picked up the boy, who was trying to run away but failed.

The shark general left with the boy, whose thoughts were all about his poor little sister who was left all alone. And he wondered if he was ever going to see her again.
