Once Upon A Dream

Chapter 15

AN: I love looking back at my first few chapters compared to my new ones to look at my improvement. Honestly my first few chapters absolutely sucked lol, but before I fix them I'm going to finish the story and then fix them.

We walk back to camp in silence. Neither of us wanting to talk after our last conversation. The sun setting, just the right amount of sunlight to see everything, but with a tint of orange.

Once we are a few miles away from camp we start to see... smoke?

I turn to Alex once I see and and notice he's seen it too. Without another thought, we both take off.

Once we get to the gates we see our camp in ruins. Tents on fire and you can see the orange glow in the darkening sky.

I need to get to Rose. 

It's almost like Alex can read my mind because right when I can take off he trys to grab my arm, but fails.

Ignoring Alex's protests I run to where my tent would be. I stop infront it, surprisingly it's still intact.

"ROSE!" I call out for her.

Where is she?

"BELLA!" I hear someone scream from behind me.

It's Rose.

Thank god.

But my relief is short lived when I see she is standing over a body. Shit.

I run towards her and notice the darkened color of her close from the smoke and her red eyes. Either from the smoke or her crying.

I look down and look at the injured body below.

It's Shana.

"They stabbed her. They asked her about the High Commander and yo- uh some princess from Kingdom Nemesis. She said she had no idea and then they stabbed her!" Rose says distressed and crying.

I look down at Shana. Her breath coming out as wheezes. I lift up her shirt to look at the stab wound. The cut looks blackish yellow. Poison.

I quickly look up at Rose. "Did you get cut?"

"Uh no I don't think so..." She says looking at her body.

"The blades... they were poisoned. Even if she could survive the stab wound, the poison would kill her within 24 hours." I look up af Rose. "Who did this?"

She grabs Shana's hand, "It was Kingdom Zues. We weren't prepared. There was ambush. Our tents were raided and burned. They were looking for the High Commander and uh." She leans in and lowers her voice. "You."

Not possible. How do they know I'm here?

"Stay here. I'll be right back ok? Just comfort Shana." I stand up after she nods and start to look for Alex.

I find him talking to his staff. I stand in his line of vision so he can see that I need to talk to him. He excuses his staff and walks towards me.

"It was Kingdom Zues." We both say at the same time.

"They were looking for me." Alex says looking around at the wreckage. "And the princess from Kingdom Nemesis. I don't know why they think she's here. I've never even seen her..."

I look down. "Uh yeah that detail confused me aswell."

He turns to the entrance of the camp and his eyes widen. I turn to see what he's looking at.

Shit.

It's his Father.

"Uh, I gotta go. I'll talk to you later." He says staring at his father and begins to walk towards him.

I don't take a look back and go back to Rose and Shana. Once I get there I see that the rest of the gang is together. They look at me, visible relaxing when seeing that I'm not hurt.

"Bella, thank god!" Naomi says running up to me and giving me a hug. Her brown hair twists to hit my face on the impact for our bodies colliding. "We didn't know where you were or if you were hurt!"

We pull apart and I look at them all. "I'm fine. I was with Alex for the day."

"Oh..." They all say. Not mentioning how they know the rumors, that aren't really rumors, about Alex and I.

"How's Shana doing?" I ask kneeling infront of her.

"She said she wanted to see you before she died, so I guess we'll all leave you two." Rose says and then leaves with everyone else.

"Hey." I tell her, trying to tell her that I'm here.

"Bella... hey..." She says with a smile, lifting her eyelids a bit. "I have to tell you some- something before I go... don't trust anyone, the people you trust will betray you. Ju- just know that ok? Promise me you'll be careful?"

"Shana I-"

"Just promise me ok, Bella?" Tears slip from her eyes as she talks.

"I promise." I say grabbing her hand and giving it a squeeze. I watch with tears as she takes her final, shakey breath.

Standing I turn to see Alex watching me. A sad look in his eyes seeing me in pain. I wipe the tears out of my eyes and walk towards him.

"Hey, what did your father say?" I ask, trying to avoid the subject of Shana.

"Uh he just wanted to know what happened and what they wanted." He says shaking his head, confused. "He didn't seem shocked by their demands. Not even about the princess. Do you really think she could be here?"

"Honestly, I don't know. She uh... she could possibly be here." I tell him fiddling with my fingers again.

"Bella... do you know something I don't?" He asks, noticing my fingers.

"Uh no." I say shoving my hands in my pockets on my pants. "Why do you ask?"

"Your hands. They were doing their anxious thing they do. Like when someone brings up you father-"

"Ok let's not talk about him!" I say interrupting him quite angerly.

"Ok uh well goodnight I guess. I'll see you tomorrow." He says and walks away.

I walk around and find Rose, and go towards our tent that is still in tact. Which makes no sense. We both go to our beds and fall asleep without another word.

Today was a long day.

For both of us.
