Brittle Laughs

Autumn

Brings change

The leaves will change

And fall

And winter will come

Covering it all

Then spring brings renewal

But not for us

Spring

Brought change

And summer

Brought even more distance

Between us

Autumn came

And I hoped

For some kind

Of reconciliation

I prayed

We hadn't grown too far apart

I didn't want to lose

You

But I should have seen it coming

A long time ago

When your laughs

Turned brittle

And forced

They easily broke away

I should have known

That spring brought change too

So when autumn came

And those brittle laughs of yours

Were more fragile than ever

I knew

We were over
