Little girls
Dance in the rain
Wearing galoshes
That come up to their knee
Raincoats
That are more like ponchos
With how they fit over their Sunday dresses
They dance in the rain
Twirling around
Stomping in the rain puddles
They don't mind
The frigid raindrops
They relish in it
Laughing up at the gloomy sky
I long to join them
To grab my old princess umbrella
And dance and twirl
And stomp in every rain puddle I come across
"That's not very lady like" the voices ring
Stopping me
From joining the little girls
They get a free pass
But only for now
Come back
In a year or two
And they'll be just like me
Carrying a boring blue umbrella
Wearing a hoodie
And not a fun colored rain coat
Regular gym shoes
So soaked that even the socks are dripping yet
Instead of cute little rainboots
I long to dance and twirl in the rain
I long to be a little girl again
Nothing is stopping me
If I'm honest with myself
I can go and hop and splash and stomp around in rain puddles
If only I could get over my fear of judgement
