if only they'd listened closer,
they'd have heard the finality of that sentence.
if only they'd payed better attention, they'd see her hollow eyes
just searching for someone to care.
if only they'd taken a moment to understand those words she spoke.
but they didn't.
they didn't notice any of it.
and now,
it's too late.
