The Human Condition

The ocean waves
Jump out, they curl,
The tide
Like the breath
Of this wondrous world.

The people come,
Sinking toes in the sand.
Who knows
What pulls them in
To this dangerous land?

One slip, one slide,
Calls in creeping death.
Tell me
Why do humans
Dance on the earth's breath?

Do people crave danger?
Is boldness to blame?
Is it
As humans we mock,
Tempt and torture and tame?

Or do we want darkness,
To hold Silence's hand?
To only
Let go of the past
And find relief in the sand.
