Searching

We both stood at the seashore,
My innocence and me.

He in his shorts, hair flowing free,
I with my book in my armpit.
He laughed, giggled as waves reached out for him,
I took a step back.
He dropped his grace, ran to the depths,
I chose a dry spot, laid my mat.
He played hide n seek with waves,
Reached out and ran as they chased,
I dusted off the sand from my feet,
Opened my book and read.

Such messy are these young kids,
They know not what life's needs,
They sing and dance in joys silly,
Little would they know, life is but a folly.

Then I glanced up, where was he?
He does it often, playing hide n seek with me,
I return to the comforts of my book.
Quietly glancing up, ready to 'seek' with a look.

A long silence, that's strange!
I carefully kept the book aside,
Dusting the remnants of sands,
I look long for his hide.
I walk, slow at first, frantic now.
I call, shout, run...
Help! Help ! to the quiet sea.

The sea is so quiet,
I can't hear the waves,
I can't hear my heart,
I can't see my days.

If only.....

If only, I had learned to let go,
My pretense of quiet solitude,
My constant need for more ;
And joined him in the seas,
To dance with life,
To drench in love.
If only...
But.....I didn't.

It feels like ages now,
When my innocence bid goodbye,
I return here often,
Same day every year,
I watch him playing hide n seek,
I reached out for him in the sea,
But his memories are running away.

No book in the armpit,
No mat to lay down,
No remnants of sand to dust,
It's just me with the ocean today.
The mighty ocean, like me,
is lonely today!

The mighty ocean, like me,is lonely today!
