Arc 1 Chapter 18: The Underworld Boss

Start from the beginning

No one.

Was he really not scared? Was everything he said true?

Diyu stood on the balcony his shoulders slightly shivered in the cool air, the soft patter of rain could still be heard in the night sky.

Silently he took out a cigerette and lit it as he looked out into the bleak night.

It was rare for Diyu to smoke, only on rainy days did he occasionally do so.

For awhile he stood silently and puffed out smoke, contemplating the situation during the day and Chen Yanyan.

"Is he really not intimidated?" Looking at the sleeping man in his bed, Diyu already knew the answer.

He had never met someone like Chen Yanyan, someone who wasn't intimidated in his presence, someone who acted so casual.

But this wasn't necessarily a good thing, perhaps it was because he simply had no fear that he dared betray Diyu in the first place...

It would make a lot of sense, if he truly had no fear then he could easily lie, betray, and trick those around him.

Diyu twisted the cigarette between his long fingers.

He couldn't help but wonder what words of Chen Yanyan were lies and what was the truth.

Could everything simply be fake?

Thinking about the events of today Diyu couldn't help give a sneer. "Perhaps he too is even after my life."

*pitter *patter

"*Tch." Diyu rubbed the cigarettes' butt out onto the metal railing before looking back into the dark room, Chen Yanyan was still soundlessly sleeping on the bed.

Diyu couldn't help but silently whisper into the darkness. "Who are you Chen Yanyan? Are you simply a skilled liar or..." He couldn't finish his words, his fists slightly clenched.

There was always the slight chance- the "what if" scenario he couldn't fully approach.

The thought that perhaps Chen Yanyan was innocent, that his words weren't lies, that perhaps... perhaps he was loyal, and simply unafraid of Diyu.

It was strange.

When the car crash happened he had urgently struggled to get Chen Yanyan out of the car wreck and onto the pavement, for a moment he even forgot his fear of the rain before lightning struck.

It was ridiculous to think that he had already begun to rely and even worry about Chen Yanyan but he still couldn't trust him.

Chen Yanyan had a strange way of bewitching his mind to distract his paranoid thoughts, only now while Chen Yanyan slept could he come back to his senses and think about such things.

Suddenly Diyu had an odd thought. "If he was innocent, could I actually trust him?"

He was abandoned, betrayed, hurt and abused, he never trusted anyone in his life, but now when looking at the sleeping figure the odd thought crept into his mind.

It was a scary thought.

Diyu walked back into the room, slow and steady, sure not to make a single sound.

Like this he approached Chen Yanyan, he outstretched his hand till it reached the man's warm neck, without applying pressure he lightly wrapped his fingers around the soft skin of the nape.

"No, even if he was innocent I could never fully trust anyone, not even him." This was the conclusion Diyu came to.

He would never let other's get close to him, betray him.

【*Ding the target's favor has decreased to 55%】

The rain softly beat against the earth.

"Haha." Diyu let out a silent chuckle, he knew he was being paranoid, but it was because he knew he was paranoid, crazy, beyond help that he knew he would never attract good people, no one would ever approach him out of just means.

"You're simply a liar." He angrily whispered out into the cold night air, his deep purple eye's staring down at Chen Yanyan.

To fall into the man's grasps, he was certain it was a trap.

Diyu continued to lightly grasp the man's neck, he could feel the slow pulse beat against his hand as the blood flowed.

*thump *thump *thump

The warm pulsing reached his fingertips and spread throughout his body.

It was the same pulse he felt earlier today...

The calm rhythmic tempo of Chen Yanyan's heart, it wasn't very strong but strangely it gave Diyu comfort.

It was honest, unafraid as it peacefully beat.

"Trust me."

Diyu remembered Chen Yanyan's tender face as he spoke such words, it was enough to move one's heart but it wouldn't sway Diyu's.

No one in this life could ever make him trust them completely and this was fact, after all everyone would eventually betray you.

Hadn't the man before him already done so?

No matter how he looked at it, it was Chen Yanyan on those video tapes, it was Chen Yanyan there that night, and it was Chen Yanyan who tried to escape after betraying the group.

He had already betrayed him once so why couldn't he abandon such a man?

Diyu's hands continued to hold onto the nape of the warm neck but they held no strength.

"I simply have to prove that you betrayed me, then I'll kill you." Diyu silently vowed as he tried to convince himself.

Finally he withdrew his hands as they hopelessly slumped to his side, like this he turned his back and began walking a few steps away.

Diyu: "Goodnight."

Softly he walked to the other side of the bed and laid down, he looked up at his hand, it was still warm with Chen Yanyan's pulse.

As he dropped his hands to his side he looked over at the blissfully unaware sleeping man.

He hadn't actually expected Chen Yanyan to agree to sleep in his bed, it was a test to prove that his words were simply lies.

"I'll stay by your side."

He wanted to prove to himself that Chen Yanyan was simply lying when he said such things, that he couldn't stay by his side, that he wouldn't.

Yes it was all another test to expose Chen Yanyan's tricks.

Yet here he was now, fast asleep in his bed...

Diyu had never slept with someone in the same room before, let alone in the same bed, he was too easily woken, he couldn't rest easy with anyone nearby.

He doubted he would be able to sleep at all during the night.

Even so it was not long before he fell into a deep sleep.

Desert Note: Hope you enjoyed this slightly more tense chapter! Diyu is still slightly guarded but it won't be long till he completely falls, or will it... (ಥ⌣ಥ)
