Surprise Dinner

Zachariah's POV

It's been about two weeks since I marked Jasper. I can't even begin to explain how happy it makes me seeing my mark on his neck. It only enhances his beauty more. If I wasn't a rather jealous Alpha, I would let him walk around shirtless so everyone can see it all the time.

I've been cooped up in my office almost 20 hours a day. Paperwork and meetings nonstop. The only time I get to see Jasper or my family is if I take a break to eat lunch or dinner. That's a big if, too. My sweet Little Light is usually asleep before I come to bed. I'm hoping things ease up soon.

Today, I'm trying to figure out this damn message. I don't understand how a wolf could mask their scent like this. I can't catch a single trace of anything.

I just don't get it. I grumble to Azlan. Why can't we pick up any scents on this letter?!

The wolf who left this must be working with a witch. Az confirms one of my worries. It's the only logical explanation.

"Fuck!" I crumple up the note tossing it across the room. "What the- ?"

I look down at my hand seeing blood forming a line across my palm. I must've cut my hand on the paper. I grab a tissue to wipe my hand of the mess.

I want mate.

I know, buddy. Me, too.

Jasper's POV

"Dameeeee!" I whine. "You're supposed to be helping me figure out how to get Zac to take a break from work. Not embarrassing me."

"It shouldn't be embarrassing, Jasper." He teases. "All I said is that you should wear only his robe to visit him in the office. He'll take one look at you and devour you head to toe over and over and over and over-"

"I get it." I interrupt. "But, I'm not ready for that."

"I know, short stuff." He coos. "When you are, Zac will go cuckoo for your Cocoa Puffs!"

I've hardly seen Zac, lately. He always goes to the office early and comes back super late. I know he's catching up on work. He's being a good Alpha for our pack, but I miss him terribly.

His obsession over work is hurting him. He has huge, dark bags under his eyes and he's losing weight from not making time to eat. I hate seeing him like this. It breaks my heart.

What can we do, Drav?

Surprise mate with dinner! He'll love it!

That's a great idea! I'll make it around 11:30pm, since he hasn't been getting home until midnight.

Make sure to tell him what time he should come home!

No way. Then, he'll know we're up to something.

But-

Hush, Draven. I reassure. It'll work out perfectly.

"Damian, I know what I'm gonna do!"

———————————————————————————

It's currently 1:30am and there has been no sign of my mate. The food is cold. I'm annoyed. Beyond annoyed. I'm pissed the fuck off! He chooses this one night to be late. I can't believe all my efforts went to waste.

I told you to tell him. Draven comments. You can't be mad at him.

I can and I will. I bitterly reply blocking off Draven.
