CHAPTER SIXTY SEVEN

Start from the beginning

The man drags me in through the door of the small room.

"Handcuff her to the chair." Madelyn snaps glaring at me. "Stop moving!" She grits and pushes the gun against my stomach as I try to break free. I immediately still. The man drags me and ties me up to the chair. Still looking at me, Madelyn says, "Now, go wait outside. I have some personal business with her." The man leaves and the door closes behind him. I glare at her face. Even though I am angry, I cannot make impulsive moves. For all I know, I could be having a baby in me right now. "I see the curiosity in your eyes, " she says in a fake sweet tone.

"Why are you doing this?" I ask in a raspy voice. I've already lost my voice.

"C'mon Avery, I thought you were smarter than this, " she says and steps closer to me. "Okay, let me say the words if you want to hear it." She leans forwards and whispers, "I want Dylan." I gulp down. She straightens back up and asks, "How long have you known Dylan? A month? Two months? I've known and loved him since I was a child."

I blink a few times. "What...?"

"Surprised? You should be." She continues, "We were in the same school. Even the same college. Just he was senior to me. Then I got a job as his assistant so that I could stay as close to him as possible. All these years I've loved him and hoped that one day he would finally notice but he never did. Then Diana fell sick and Dylan got desperate to get married for her. I even tried to take the opportunity and I would've gotten it if your useless cousin didn't show up."

"You were the one who blackmailed her?" I ask even though the answer is pretty obvious, I never thought it was Madelyn. How could she? She has been doing this the whole time? She was the one who tried to kill me?

She shrugs nonchalantly. "Well, yeah. I told her I would kill her family if she didn't obey what I say. Including you. If I had known that you would spoil my whole plan, I would've done that much before." She grits her teeth. "Anyway so, as per my plan, she would've eloped, I would've shown up at the right time and Dylan would have to get married to me. But when I reached, I saw you. Walking down the aisle."

Suddenly she smacks the side of my face with the back of her gun, making me grunt. "Ahhh!" Dizziness appears under my eyelids.

"Hurts doesn't it? Huh? It should. It hurts me more to see Dylan with someone else."

I cough and try to hold back the nauseousness building in me. "You think you can get Dylan by doing all this?" I snap.

"I am going to get Dylan after I kill you. You know how? Well, he will need someone's shoulder to cry over his wife's death. And I don't think anyone would do that better than me. I won't let them."

"He won't fall for you. Because he loves me. You should know him better than that. And what makes you think he will notice you after so many years?" If I don't make it out of here, if she kills me then she will do anything to get Dylan. And there is no guarantee that she won't try to hurt him. She is a psyco.

"You think you made him fall in love with you with your cute little sad love story? What will happen when he knows that I have a similar story and for me, it's not some dumb kid from school but Dylan himself?" Of course, she knows about Marcus. For how long has she been tracking me?

"You can pretend that he doesn't love me but that won't stop being true." Immediately she hits the side of my face and I grunt.

"Like that?!" Tears sting my eyes. I am on the verge of crying. A sob leaves my lips. Madelyn puts the gun on my forehead and yells, "And why am I talking to you?" Then lowering her voice, she says, "Time to go, missy. Bye-bye." I squeeze my eyes closed. Dylan's face flashes in front of my eyes. He smiles at me. I see his grey eyes staring at me with love. Tears start spilling out of my eyes. I won't see him again.

"Please don-"

Suddenly there is a thud at the door and my breathing stills. "Put the fucking gun down!" I hear a male growl. My head snaps in the direction of the voice. Dylan stands at the door with a gun pointed at Madelyn. His jaw tight and his eyes are shooting daggers at Madelyn.

"Dylan..." I call. His eyes fall on me and soften.

"What are you doing here?" Madelyn yells keeping the gun pointed at me.

"You really thought you could kidnap my wife from my house and I won't follow her?" With that, he steps into the room and closer to us.

"Don't come closer or I'll shoot her!" Madelyn warns.

"Before you can pull the trigger, the bullet will be out of my gun, you know me, Madelyn, " Dylan says in a grave voice, intimidating as hell.

Madelyn looks at me and says, "Dylan knows about me. I guess I can't follow my plan now. But if I don't get Dylan, " as she stops once to look at Dylan, I know what she is about to do. Confirming my thought, her hand swings towards Dylan with the gun. "No one will!"

"No!" I yell. The gun roars and I squeeze my eyes shut. There is no way this is happening. It has to be a dream. Please, please. "No-no-no. No!!! Ahhhh! No-!"

I hear a thud, indicating someone's body falling on the floor. My mind shuts out. And everything stops. My body starts to feel lighter. All the sounds around me fade away. I don't know if I am breathing. That's when two hands land on my shoulder. "Avery." Dylan...

I open my eyes and look at him. He is alive. He is alive. "Dylan..." Suddenly, a nauseous feeling hits me and I snap my head in the other direction. I throw up. Dylan jumps back then comes around to hold my shoulder. I empty my stomach on the floor. My head gets dizzy and darkness falls under my lids.
