The night was cold, a thick fog hung outside my window. The thunder declared itself in the soundless night as my room lit up by the lightning outside. I was trying to catch some sleep which was eluding me. My mother had just put me to bed wishing me sweet dreams but it seemed that sleep was miles away from me. I took a deep breath and listened to the soft, tranquil voice of the rainfall, letting the thumping of the water droplets on the windows relax me.
Suddenly I heard a knock from outside the window. I blinked a few times to let my mind focus on the sound. After a second there was another knock at the window. Now I was fully alert, adrenaline pumped throughout my body rejuvenating each muscle of my body to prepare for any unprecedented circumstance. I gingerly got up from the bad and made my way toward the window and opened it briefly to check if someone's out there. The sound of the thunder profused and the surrounding looking simultaneously terrifying and soothing. My sixth sense told me that something treacherous is going to happen but I fought the feeling away and rubbed my eyes to assess the surrounding. Not very far away I spotted my mother sitting on a bench, leisurely contemplating the scene. I quickly ran down the stairs and got out of the house, curiosity filling my mind about why my mom is outside.
As I neared her, I noticed that she was laughing to herself. There was an unusual glint in her eyes and her mouth was hanging open as wide as it could. She uncharacteristically barked a laugh as she looked at me.
"Mom what are you doing here? you will catch a cold" I shouted over the sound of rain.
"No I won't" she contradicted, giving me a mischievous smile.
"Mon come..."
"I SAID NO" she chastised. That was soo unlike her. she never raised her voice in front of me. I squinted my eyes at her as her unusual malevolent smile pasted on her pale face. Instantaneously her faced charged in a second and in front of me stood a beast with fur covering its body and its canine escaped from the mouth.
"You think you can argue with me child" snarled the creature.
I shook my head vigorously and ran as fast as I could, trying my best to not peak behind.
"Maxon! Maxon!" shouted someone.
I jerked awake and tried to process what was happening. In front of me stood my mother, concern and relief swirling in her eyes.
"Are you alright son? you were surely having a bad dream. Do you need anything" I ignored her questioned and hugged her as tightly as I could.
It was the most unusual dream I ever had.
