Chapter 1 - Uncovered Secrets

"What if I can't take it?" I said "I just told Keane that we'll be okay, but will we really?"

"Yes we will, I promise you that" he kissed me and we went into the sitting room where Tayte and Arii were cuddled up together, they looked up,

"Where's Keane?" Arii asked,

"He walked off down the road, said he needed time to think" I replied,

"What are we going to do?" She then asked,

"I don't know sis"

"We're going to figure this all out, that's what" Tayte said, "As a family"

"This family has already fallen apart" Arii said,

"Guys, look how happy we were an hour ago" Angelo said, "That's what we're going to get back to okay"

"Yeah, let's be positive" Tayte said,

"I guess that's all we can be" I then said,

Keane's POV

I'd taken a slow walk to the diner where I worked. If I could drive, I would've just got into my car and drove to clear my mind. But I can't obviously!

"I didn't think I'd be seeing you on your day off" Rory Corrigan, the owner said to me as I walked in through the door, I half smiled, "Are you okay?"

"I don't know" I replied honestly. I also didn't know whether I could trust him or not, which was such a load of bullshit.

"Do you want to talk about it?"

"I don't know if I can"

"Come on son" He said, guiding me past the kitchen and into the back, where he sat me on a chair and set about making me a macchiato, I ran my fingers through my hair sighing,

"So" He said putting the drink in front of me after a few minutes, "What's wrong?"

"Everything" I replied looking at him, "It's all messed up"

"What is all messed up?"

I couldn't tell him. I wanted to, I trusted him, well, I used to until reading the letter, I stood up,

"Thanks for the drink but...I've got to go"

"I'm proud of you Keane"

"Why?"

"Trust no one except those close to you" He said, I stared at him, how did he know? "I've...we've known your parents for years. We are one of few people you can trust"

"How do I know you're not a really good liar, trying to lead me on?" he smiled and walked over to a draw, pulling it open,

"Because..." He started, coming back over with some things in his hands "Look at this"

"No way" the picture was of a younger version of our parents with Rory and Piper Corrigan outside of this diner. There were also letters from our parents to them,

"If you look at the names and addresses you have of people in different countries, you'll find ours is the only one in America"

"You don't know how relieved I am to here that" I hugged him and he smiled,

"You're not alone Keane, far from it"

I stayed at the diner for a few more hours, leaving at around 6pm. We lived about 20 minutes' walk away, but it took me longer with my bloody boot. It wasn't dark out, but it was getting there as I set off.

Tayte's POV

"Where is he?" Arii asked,

"Probably on his way home" I answered, I hoped so anyway,
