Major Afiq's house,

Harris's POV
_________________________________________

"Bachey ghar se chaley jatey hain toh ghar khali lagney lagta hai. Tumney shadi kyun nhi ki Harris beta?" Afiq Uncle asked while sipping his green tea after dinner. His voice gruff due to age yet familiar.

(When children grow up the house seems empty, why didn't you get married Harris?)

Harris grimaced at the question hidding his expression behind the teacup. It was a question he was dreading and was tired of hearing.

Ghar kaa bara beta hai, choti behen ki shadi hogayi-- bacha honey wala hai. Chotey bhai ki bhi mangni hogayi or yeh kunwara hai abhi tak... Tum ne shadi kyun nhi ki Harris beta?

(Eldest son of the house, while his younger sister is married and pregnant and his younger brother engaged, is still single...)

He had heard those lines a couple of hundred times and it didn't make a difference who said it, it was still disturbing to hear every time.

Harris wasn't one to care about others' opinions much. But it still irked him how people were so interested in his marital status.

'I am only 25 chill out people!
Choton ki shadi jaldi hogayi mera kyaa qasoor hai?! Ho jati meri bhi agr woh—’

(The young ones got hitched fast not my fault! I would've been too if she hadn't --)

He broke that train of thought jerking his head fast, knowing there was serious...danger ahead.

"Beti biyaah ker tumhari Ammi akeli hogayin bilkul, tum shadi kar lete toh kisi ka sath mil jata unheyn-" Major Afiq kept saying, oblivious to Harris's reaction till he was at the end of his patience.

(Your mother got lonely after wedding her daughter, if you had married--)

Not that Harris had much patience to begin with...

He struggled to keep a straight face as he interrupted Major Afiq.

"Uncle job pakki ho jaye gi toh phir .. Insha'Allah.." He said.

Even saying that made him cringe.

(Uncle as soon as my job is stable, InshaAllah..)

'Zindagi main kbhi bhi shadi nhi karun ga.' he thought.

(I am never getting married in my entire life.)

"Waisy bhi, Hania mama ke sath hi hoti hai aaj kal, phir Haider ki rukhsati thori hui hai.” he kept his tone light as he joked, “Woh bhi hota hai. Aur jb se University khatam hua hai kuch zyada hi ghar hota hai.." Harris barely stopped himself from rolling his eyes thinking of his brother sitting his ass at home twenty four seven.

(Anyways, Hania comes to visit a lot and Haider is at home too... Specially after his university ended he never leaves... )

He tired to maintain as much civility as he could not wanting his impatient temperament to mess things up and destroy his reputation here. Major Afiq was a good old family friend but talking back and eye rolling would not be appreciated, specially not by him.
