And then it was finally her turn to go.
Y/n borrowed a rubberband from Uraraka to tie her long, h/c hair into a high ponytail. She dusted off imaginary dirt from her uniform, the butterflies going from her stomach to her head, making her feel lightheaded. Y/n was very nervous about fighting in a big stadium like this.
When Y/n was just about done mentally hyping herself up, Present Mic called out her name. She walked out of the tunnel and onto the playing field, the cheers of the crowd making all her anxiety crawl back up her spine again. Whatever, she thought, there was no going back now. She had to show off or else she might not get a good work-study placement after this. Physically shaking her arms out to try and calm herself (despite it probably making her look really weird), she took a deep breath and waited for her opponent to step on the opposite side of the fighting area.
"And Lucas Reverie, from the same class!!" announced Present Mic, Reverie walking in on cue.
He brushed a hand through his messy pink locks, and then threw out his arms in the air, letting parts of them disintegrate to form a pink heart above him for the audience to see. A heart made of pink glittery dust.
'Of course he'd do something like that. What an attention seeker.'
It almost looked like he read Y/n's mind, because he immediately turned back to her with a serious expression, hands reforming quickly. "I won't go easy on you, ya know. So don't hold back on me, you hear?"
"Let the match... BEGIN!!!"
Y/n decided to ignore that comment and focus on the fight. She began by remembering her opponent's quirk: fragmentize. She overheard the conversation he had with his friend group, but didn't catch everything he'd said. It had something to do with materializing himself in different places by turning himself into dust... she thinks. She wasn't sure, but if that was the case, then maybe she shouldn't use her quirk on the dust he scatters, or she might end up deleting parts of him... and Y/n didn't want to know how that would turn out. She shivered at the thought. Basically, she'd have to rely on the hand-to-hand combat Yaomomo taught her, and maybe she could try using her quirk to make a hole in the floor again, like during the race. Actually, scratch that- she didn't want to accidentally delete the stadium.
While Y/n's brain was rapidly working to try and make a strategy, Reverie lifted his arms in front of himself and shook them, the area from his hands to his elbows turning into dust that fell on the floor and started to slither towards Y/n.
She was thinking so hard she didn't realize a pair of hands grabbed her ankles and pulled forward, trying to trip her. Her reflexes kicked in, and she did a backflip, landing on her feet. The opponents' eyes met then, and Y/n realized that she had no time to prepare a plan of attack.
Y/n dashed towards the other student, and aimed a punch to his gut once she was directly in front of him.
Lucas was quick to dodge, though, making his stomach turn to dust before he could feel the impact. Y/n doubled back, but she was caught right into another trap. The glittery pink hands from before pulled the girl to the boundary, trying to pull her out. Y/n kicked at the hands and scattered the dusty forms easily. She ran towards the boy again and this time pretended to aim a kick at his feet, but when he moved to dodge, she grabbed his arm and flipped him over towards the boundary line.
Lucas recovered quickly from the surprise attack.
"So you're not completely defenceless, little Y/n."
He then completely disintegrated, making the dust go all around her. Y/n's vision was clouded. She didn't know what to do. How could you push away an opponent that has nothing to be pushed? ... Wind? Would water make him be at a disadvantage, like that villain from Spider-man? There was no water around here... and she didn't want to try to blow him... ugh, that sounded gross. The only option she had was to wait for him to reform so she could push him outside of the boundary.
Lucas's dust formed into multiple sandy ropes that wrapped around Y/n.
"Wh- "
And then threw her off the playing field once and for all.
Her body slammed against the dirt outside of the playing field, hard, but not hard enough to hurt her seriously. 'Well that match ended quickly...'
On the stage, Lucas' dust gathered in one place, making him look like a human again. He bowed theatrically to the audience, basking in the cheers and applause he got from winning against Y/n. Cartoony hearts made of pink glitter flew to the audience and exploded like miniature fireworks. Y/n simply sighed at his antics. There was nothing she could do now. He had won, fair and square.
Y/n retreated back to the changing rooms.

When the sports Festival was finally over, Y/n was relieved. The entire ordeal was so outrageously loud and stressful that she felt like she was going to faint. But now that it was over, and the winners had been announced– unsurprisingly it was Bakugou, Todoroki, and then Tokoyami who won– Y/n could finally catch her breath.
The school gave the students two days off after the Sports festival. While some students went to make amends with their family, and some just went to spend time with them after being on live tv, Y/n went home to take a three hour long nap. Alone.
Aizawa came home when she was halfway through her nap. He had been out getting groceries for the two of them to have dinner. 'Mmm... lasagna.' thought the teacher as he set down the supplies.
He noticed Y/n passed out on the couch and freaked out for a second, but then realized that she was sleeping. He pulled out a blanket from her room and gently covered the sleeping girl. A great amount of restraint was needed for him to not brush his hands through her hair. Y/n reminded him of a cat he had when he was small. It had fur the same colour as her hair, and was quiet like her as well.
But... Y/n was different from a childhood pet. She was his... daughter. His own family. He had to take care of her now that she was going to be staying with him in the long term.
He first heard about her through the school grapevine. A quiet child with only one parent. The parent being the kind of dismissive and distant person that raised children to feel alone, unloved, and possibly future villains. He had thought that All Might, who had apparently been the one to see this with his own eyes, would be the one to take care of the matter. To encourage the child or, better yet, find someone to act as a role model for her. But that never happened, and soon he found the girl camping outside of the school... on a bench. All Might was of no help whatsoever... and he couldn't just leave her there. He didn't want her to stay in such a lonely house, but he didn't mean for her to have to be all alone outside either. So of course he had to take her in. He wasn't exactly equipped for parenthood, but he knew how to handle teenagers.
And he knew how it felt to have a parent continuously ignore you for a long time in your life.
A murmur came from Y/n's sleeping form.
Shota smiled. "I may not be the ideal father, but I promise I'll do my best, Y/n." he said, allowing himself to pat her hair softly.
"Mm... Papa?" mumbled Y/n quietly.
Aizawa brushed his hand over her hair once more in silence. He'd let her have whatever dream she was having. She deserved to at least be with her real parents in her reveries.

Apologies for not updating in so long. Still no promises for an updating schedule... most of my time is being spent on reading stuff for another fandom recently.
Hope you're all well.
