As the Death Eaters surged towards them, Harry found himself frantically looking across the hall to Malfoy, who was stood firmly, wand brandished, uttering spells under his breath. Harry knew he couldn't get across the hall to help Malfoy, no matter how much he wanted to.

"Well, well, we meet again don't we Potter!" Greyback snarled, brandishing his teeth at Harry.

"Stay back," Harry growled, wand pointed at the werewolf's chest.

"Or what? You going to kill me, Potter?" he laughed.

Harry was stunned for a moment - he'd never thought of killing anyone. He'd always used expelliarmus and it had gotten him through one war already. But the doubt that Greyback wouldn't be as easy to disarm rendered him speechless, unable to move or react. His eyes flickered across the hall to where Malfoy was ... or had been.

Panic rose in Harry's chest as Harry scanned the room - there was no sight of Malfoy anywhere. Greyback was edging forward as Harry backed away, until his back was pressed against the wall.

"You've never killed anyone," Greyback taunted. "And I don't think you're about to start today," he snarled, his top lip curling up to reveal his long and sharp canine fangs.

Harry held his breath, fear rising inside him. He closed his eyes, expecting the pain to come.

"He might not be able to, but I can!" a voice snarled.

Harry's eyes opened in a flash as he saw Malfoy standing behind Greyback, his wand pressed against the werewolf's spine.

"Malfoy," Greyback hissed, spinning around. "You have a soft spot for Potter here? You just wait until your father finds out. It would be a shame if someone were to tell him."

Malfoy's face wrenched in pain as he quickly glanced towards his father who was stood at the enterance of the hall, unsure what to do with himself. "It would be a shame if someone were to kill you, Greyback. Think about all the female wolves who would have missed out on such a ... catch as you."

"You don't scare me, boy," Greyback hissed.

"I would feel bad about killing you, but as you know you killed one to many of our students in the last war. You're going to pay!" Malfoy growled. "Ava... ahhhhhhh!"

Malfoy let out a shrill scream and Harry saw that Greyback had caught his arm and had sunk his teeth into his flesh. Harry saw the look of pain on Draco's face as the boy fell to the floor. Motionless.

"AVADA KEDAVRA!" Harry screamed, pointing his wand at Greyback's back. The werewolf looked shocked as he released Malfoy's arm and fell to the ground, dead.

Harry collapsed by Draco's side, tears filling his eyes. "Malfoy ... no ... please ... wake up. For me. Please." He shook the blonde boy's shoulders frantically. No response.

Harry got up dragging his sleeve across his face. He dried his eyes and let out a gasp of air.

"DRACO!" Narcissa screamed, coming to a halt beside her son. Tears were rolling down her cheeks as she held her son's head close to her heart. Spells were rebounding above their heads.

Harry fired spells back at the death eaters, his head spinning with rage. He couldn't think properly as he staggered forwards.

Draco was dead and it was his fault.

He should have killed Greyback sooner.

"Petrificus Totalus!" he screamed as two death eaters ran towards him. They froze instantly.

Just as he was about to fire another shot, the roof of the great hall was ripped off to reveal Grawp standing above them.

Hagrid ran into the Great Hall and looked up. "GRAWPY!" he gasped.

"Hagger!" Grawp boomed, his face lighting up. He stooped down and picked up the five nearest death eaters in his hand and looked expectantly at Hagrid. Hagrid smirked as Grawp threw the death eaters as far as he could.

A lot of the death eaters had fled from the castle the instant that Grawp had ripped off the roof, but the few that had stayed were determined to fight to the death.

Harry turned back to face Malfoy. Seeing his loves lifeless body, Harry ran after the death eaters that were determined to fight. He was joined by Ron, Hermione and Dean. They all ran into the quad where they saw a line death eaters, all armed and ready to fight.

The four of them stopped and turned to each other in shock.

"How are we supposed to compete with ten of them?" Dean demanded.

"We stick together," Harry replied.

"THAT'S NOT GOING TO HELP US HARRY! SURELY YOU LISTENED IN MATHS!" Hermione shrieked. "DUCK!" (P.s. In the UK we call "math" "maths" just to clear that up. It's not a typo)

A killing curse flew past their heads as they all ducked, narrowly avoiding death.

"What's maths?" Ron asked.

"Not the priority Ronald!" Hermione shouted. "Petrificus Totalus!"

"We're outnumbered," Dean muttered. "We're going to die!"

There was a loud pop behind them and Ginny appeared. "Not if we have more people."

"You've got to go, Ginny!" Dean demanded. "Petrificus Totalus" he cried, shooting at the death eaters again as they crouched behind a pillar.

"For once I agree with Dean," Harry mumbled.

"Suck it up, guys. I'm staying."
