PS- I really appreciate your support and kind reactions to my first attempt at a fanfiction. It always makes me smile when you guys enjoy a chapter. So yeah a big thanks from me :D

Chapter 12 - The Stag Patronus

"Wait? What?" Malfoy mumbled, looking up and meeting the smiling - almost nervous looking - Harry Potter's gaze.

"I'll help you, if you want?" Harry repeated, this time with a bit more confidence.

"Yeah, I heard," Malfoy said, with a dismissive wave of his hand. "You, the famous Harry Potter, wants to help me - your mutual enemy since the first day at Hogwarts?"

Harry remained silent for a moment - thinking hard - before smiling again. "Yep."

Malfoy's jaw dropped and he stared at him open mouthed. "Seriously? If this is some kind of a joke between you and Weaselbee, I will make your life a misery!"

"Calm down, Draco. You'll burst a vein if you get too cross," Harry said plainly, making his way towards where Malfoy stood staring at him with surprise.

Malfoy almost spluttered with his confusion at the entire strange situation. "Did ..." his voice sounded unusually high and he coughed. "Did you just call me Draco?"

Harry rolled his eyes at Malfoy's reaction and went to stand beside him. "Now, the test tomorrow is on how to ward off Dementors - so I suggest that you follow my advice. Dementors are not the friendliest of creatures and take no deeper pleasure than sucking all the happiness from ..."

"Yeah, yeah, Potter. Spare me the lecture. Let's just do some spells!" Malfoy interupted, stepping further away from Harry - trying to ignore the racing feeling in his chest. Was he having a heart attack? He wasn't sure, but he didn't like the way his heartbeat kept getting quicker and quicker.

"Are you even listening?" Harry snapped as Malfoy had zoned out.

"Huh? What?"

"I said: you have to think of a powerful thought - it might not exactly be happy, but just think of something powerful," Harry repeated, smiling secretly as Malfoy closed his eyes to think of a memory.

Think, brain! Malfoy thought, scrunching his eyes tighter together. What's the most powerful memory I have? The time father gave me my first broomstick? No. Too weak. THINK!

"I can't think of anything!" he said in despair.

"Come on, Draco," Harry muttered, resting a comforting hand on the blonde boy's shoulder.

What about the feeling you felt when Potter offered to help you? he asked himself silently. It could work ... I don't want it to, but it just might.

"Got one," he whispered, his voice barely audiable.

"Good," Harry muttered, staring at the boy beside him. How had he never noticed Malfoy's handsomeness before? His grey eyes were perfectly set over those perfect cheek bones and his hair had flecks of of brown dappled by his one ear. It was very faint, but it suited him.

"What?" Malfoy snapped, glaring at the boy beside him. "Have I got something on my face or something?" he muttered, rubbing a hand across his cheek.

Harry blinked, looking away quickly, and blushed slightly. "No, it's nothing," he cleared his thoat, before speaking. "Now thinking of this thought you have, say powerfully these words - Expecto Patronum."

"Expecto Pat...." Malfoy sighed, lowering his wand. "Damn, I can't remember it."

Harry moved behind him and placed a hand on Draco's arm, pointing the wand upwards. Malfoy tensed as fireworks erupted inside him and his insides seemed to knot together. He wanted to jerk away, but his body seemed to retract against Harry's muscled chest.

Harry was shocked as Malfoy didn't pull away. What was the meaning of this? Was there a meaning? Why was everything so confusing? He had a hundred and one questions that he wanted to ask, but he couldn't find the words, so instead he muttered "Expecto Patronum," in Malfoy's ear.

Malfoy almost melted into the ground as Harry's warm breath curled across his cheek, making him blush deeply. "EXPECTO PATRONUM!" he shouted, pointing the wand at the ceiling.

Harry stepped back as a stag erupted from the end of Draco's wand, his mouth hung ajar. He didn't know what he had been expecting - maybe a snake to appear - but a stag was unexpected. Harry's patronus was a stag. Why was Malfoy's?

Malfoy watched as the stag danced across the room, bucking its head with pride. He was taken aback by the beauty of the patronus that he didn't realise the shocked expression on Harry's face. When he realised that he hadn't said anything, he turned to Harry and saw him stood with his mouth ajar, looking like he had seen a ghost.

"What?" Malfoy asked as the stag disappeared.

No response.

"Potter?"

No response.

"HARRY!" he bellowed, waving a hand in front of the Chosen One's face.

"Y ... Yeah?"

"What's up?"

"Expecto Patronum," Harry whispered as a stag erupted from his wand.

Malfoy stared at it, his mouth dropping open. Harry's patronus was a stag too?

Harry didn't dare to look in Malfoy's eyes as he ran from the Room of Requirement; Malfoy watched him leave, suddenly feeling a horrible lurch in the pit of his stomach. He almost felt hurt as Harry sprinted away.

Almost.
