Chapter Eighteen: A Letter From Melrose University

It had been a week since everything went down with Melissa and Riley. The second day of the trip would have been interesting and entertaining had I been in the mood for it. We went Golfing, a sport in which I discovered I sucked. Mr. Anderson came out with a shocker. He was pretty great! Riley was even worse than me. At one point, one of her golf balls hit me. I couldn't decide whether she meant it or not, though the smirk that appeared on her lips when her golf ball hit my leg was a giveaway.

After Golf, we headed over to the hotels to change our clothes, then went down to lunch, afterwhich we were treated to the most amazing massage. It felt like I was floating on a candy cloud in heaven. Not a care in the world could have snapped me out of my trance, but apparently, hot rocks could.

It was like someone was setting me on fire. The rocks were so hot, they made me feel like I was running naked in the Sahara Desert. However, once I got used to it, it sort of became relaxing, as if I was in a sauna without getting wet with sweat. After the massages, we attended a meditation session, from which we were kicked out for not being quiet enough. I think it was the fact that I fell on the huge chime, or maybe it was because Riley's phone went off in the middle of the class, playing the ringtone, which was 'Sexy and I Know It'. All good reasons...

Having some free time on our hands, we decided to go hiking in a nearby forest. I figured it was my best opportunity to talk to Riley about everything that happened last night. Melissa had left that night, not allowing me to explain myself. She wouldn't even answer my texts or return my calls. Not that she had to. What I'd done was awful, but not dealing with my feelings for Riley would be even worse. I was being unfair to her, unfair to them both.

I tried my best to try and talk about it with her. Her excuses to avoid me got more ridiculous as we marched on rocky roads, through dark green bushes. In the beginning, everytime she sensed me getting closer, she would catch up to Mr. Anderson and start up a conversation. When Mr. Anderson was busy drinking water or something, she would come up with excuses like 'I need to pee' or, and this was the winner of the night, 'Oh my God! Big foot! Oh, no wait it's just a tree. So how did you find lunch Mr. A?'. With that, she would avert the subject, and more importantly, me.

As we ended our hiking trip, we went back to the hotel to shower and pack. The last activity of the day was taking a four hour flight around Melrose, then stop for a concert by 'The Black Eyed Peas'. The flight was quite overwhelming! The way the city looked so calm and serence from the sky, yet so busy and crowded within. It was truly fascinating. The concert, on the other hand, was mind-blowing! Mr. Anderson wasn't enjoying it at all. He kept complaining about the annoying loud music, but got used to it by the last dfew songs. Riley and I on the other hand were having the time of our lives!

That was all over now, though.

There I was, standing in the school hallway like I do everyday of any week of school. I was completely alone. Neither Melissa, nor Riley would talk to me. I thought at least Nick would, but he of all people shut me out the most. I figured Riley must have told him to stay clear of me or something.

Grabbing my pencilcase from my locker, I made my way to my Mathematics final. The hallway was, for once, silent. Except for a few students who were chatting silently amongst themselves, almost everyone had a book in hand, and was doing some last minute cramming before entering the exam hall. For the past week, we'd been lectured about studying well and not getting distracted by all our teachers. We'd stopped school on Wednesday, and were given five days to study for our exams. Today was the day of my first exams: Mathematics and Civics. I had Civics first, which went like a breeze. It mostly depended on logic. So, it was more than easy! Next up was Mathematics. I was nervous enough about it until Mr. Anderson told us that it would be very hard. That's when it got worse.
