Chapter Five: Exposed!

I got out of Melissa's car, then thanked her for giving me a lift home.

"It's no trouble, your house is pretty close to mine." she said winking.

I was about to enter my house when I turned back to Melissa, who had reached her porch.

"Hey, Melissa?" I said nervously.

"Yeah?" she said looking up.

"Want to have lunch together tomorrow?" I asked my heart pumping loudly.

"Sure!" she giggled roaming her bag looking for her keys.

"Great!" I said.

"See you later!" she said, then waved goodbye as she entered her house and closed the door behind her.

I put my keys in the lock, and went into my house. The smell of juicy, delicious food was overwhelming. I immediately recognized the smell of my favourite food; pasta and meatballs showered with melted cheese.

I didn't realize how hungry I was until I got to the kitchen and saw the steam emitting from one of the plates.

"Hi sweetie!" said my mom, Kathy.

"Hey mom!" I said. "It smells really good in here."

"Thank you sweetie, how was your day?" she asked laying down forks and spoons on the table.

"Emm...interesting."

"Just interesting?" she said her eyebrows raised. "Because I got an 'interesting' call from your principal."

"Oh..he called you? I can explain..I"

"Explain? Honey, he called me to tell me how happy he was with you. I'm so proud of you!" she said embracing me into a tight hug.

"I love that guy" I whispered to myself.

"We're home!" said my dad after enterring the house.

Delia came running through to the kitchen.

"Mommy, mommy!" she said hugging my mom.

"Hi baby girl, I missed you!" said my mom kissing Delia and fixing a loose strand of her hair. "How was your first day?

"Great! I made tons of friends." said Delia smiling proudly.

"Aww honey! That's great!" said my mom.

"Hey Kath!" said my dad kissing my mom on the cheek.

She hugged him and kissed him back then ordered us to sit down so we could eat. "Derek, would you like to say grace?"

My dad nodded and began," Heavenly father, we thank you for the food that we're about to receive, and for the nourishment and health of our bodies. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen."

"Amen" we all repeated.

We spent the entire time talking about our first days. Delia told us all about her new friends Dana and Ellis, and how she helped the girls beat the boys in kick-ball. Dad told us about his first day at the military academy. Apparently, he was very impressed by the discipline and dedication the students displayed. I, on the other hand, spared as much detail of my first day as I could. The last thing I needed was my parents prying into my private life.
