I rolled over, the next morning, to find the other half of Mikey's spare bed empty.

I opened my eyes to check if my boyfriend was somewhere else in the room.

Nothing...

I got up and got dressed, going downstairs.

Hayley and Mikey were sitting at the dining table, picking at the cold Turkey platter.

"Have you guys seen Gerard?" I asked.

"Um... Not exactly." Mikey hesitated.

"But we did find an empty champagne bottle by the front door and a vodka bottle in the kitchen. Gerard's car's gone." Hayley finished.

My heart stopped.

Gerard was driving... And drunk...

"He wh... No. He wouldn't. Mikey you know he wouldn't he's stronger than that. He had no reason to." I blurted out, unable to find the right words.

After Gerard told me about his alcoholism, I made it my solemn duty to make sure he stayed clean. Not that I didn't trust him or anything, more for moral support...

But it seemed as though he'd let me down...

"Want me to get the car? We'll see if we can find him." Mikey suggested.

I nodded and sniffed, feeling a tear trickle down my cheek which was soon wiped away.

Mikey's hand rested on my shoulder.

"We're going to find him. Okay?" He smiled weakly.

I nodded.

Hayley stayed at Mikey's, watching TV in case Gerard came back.

But I couldn't help but look back at her and the TV, seeing she had switched to the news...

We checked the nearby streets first.

Nothing...

Then we tried the streets nearer to Gerard's house.

Nothing...

Then we checked the house.

His car was abandoned on the sidewalk outside the house, steam pouring out of the hood.

"Oh my God..." I breathed.

I got out of Mikey's car as he pulled in the driveway to see the car was still running, but Gerard was no where to be seen.

I opened the car door and took the keys out of the ignition and ran to Gerard's front door.

It had been untouched and was still locked.

"Where is he?!" I shrieked, panic settling in.

"Check round the back. I'll check in the house." Mikey told me.

I handed him the keys and nodded, jogging round the back of the house.

"Gerard?" I called.

Nothing...

I checked further up the garden by the shed and heard snivelling.

"Gee?" I called, softly.

"No. Don't come over here. You... You can't see me like this." He mumbled from around the back of the wooden structure.

I sighed and went round anyway.

There he was...

He was sat on the floor with his knees up, crying into them.

"Gerard..." I sighed, sitting by him.

I threw my arms around his body and rested my head on his shoulder as he cried.

"Why?" I asked in a whisper.

Gerard lifted his head, so I moved away a little, making sure I was still holding him.

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry Scarlett. I let you down. I let Mikey down. I let my mom down. I let everyone down." He sniffed as I wiped away his tears with my thumbs.

"What happened?" I asked.

"I remembered what you said. On our first date." He told me. "That you would just 'fuck and leave'. I don't know why that made me do what I did. Because if you meant that, you wouldn't have said yes when I asked you to be my girlfriend. But I lost it Scar... I lost it so bad. And I got drunk and left before you saw me, I crashed the car and-"

I cut him off by kissing his lips.

"It's ok." I said. "You have nothing to be sorry for."

"But-"

"But nothing. Everyone has bad days. I'll be honest I did mean what I said then. But at that time, I wasn't aware of how hard I'd fallen for you." I smiled.

Gerard smiled back and ran his knuckles down my cheek, softly.

"You're amazing Scarlett." He chuckled.

I couldn't help but smile again. His touch was so soothing.

"Not as amazing as you." I replied.

Gerard sighed. "What are we going to do about the car? That has to be a write-off."

"Fuck the car. It's not important right now. What's important is that we get you some rest so you can sober up, ok?" I raised an eyebrow.

He nodded.

I stood up before helping him do the same and we made our way to the front door where Mikey was just about to leave.

"Oh thank God! Gerard? Are you ok?" He asked,  helping me with making sure his older brother didn't fall.

"I'm fine Mikey." Gerard sighed.

After putting Gerard to bed, I told Mikey what his brother told me and thanked him for his help and hospitality.

"It's no problem. Are you sure you don't want me to stay?" He asked as I led him to the front door.

"I'm sure. Thanks again Mikey." I smiled.

After Mikey had left, I went up and tucked myself in next to Gerard, who wrapped his arms around me tightly.

"Thank you." He whispered.

"It's what I'm here for." I smiled, drifting off into a dreamless sleep.
