Chapter 22: Moving On (part 2)

"Are we ready for the dance ma'am?" Dad mockingly asked as he held his arm out for me to hold as the song for the father-daughter dance began.

"Ready as can be" I smiled and stood up nearly reaching the height of dad thanks to the heels. That's when I suddenly realised that I'm not that short anymore even without the heels! Seems as though I've grown quite a bit these past few weeks.

We made our way to centre stage as everyone watched, "This is nice" I said as I thought back to the other dances we had done in all my previous birthdays.

"Happy birthday" he said as we began dancing to the awfully slow song.

"Thanks for everything Dad" I whispered as I smiled at him.

"It's nothing pal. Really, it was all your mom. Although the cake is on me"

"Okay, I'll hold you accountable if it tastes wrong." I teased acting all high maintenance.

"Well what I meant to say it that your mother chose it and I of course helped her with her decision which was primarily hers." He chuckled making me chuckle and we stood in the middle of the hall simply... Chuckling?

Just as some others joined us Dylan decided to intercept as well, "Dad that's enough" he said as he took my arm and waved a good bye to dad.

"Dylan. Brother. How nice of you to dance, but may I ask what inspired you to do such a thing?" I sarcastically commented as I observed his expression.

"Our mother of course, who maliciously threatened me." He sarcastically smiled

I chuckled as he did and we danced for a while. I mostly made fun of his dancing skills which were slim to none. He was useless at dancing but luckily you couldn't notice due to the pace of the song.

"Oh and I hope you appreciate me inviting that Hunting kid over there. I allowed it this once because you've been acting weird lately and I needed to know if it's his fault. You tell me if it is I swear I will dispose of him within seconds. He makes me sick" Dylan acted grossed out as he glared at Hunter across the hall.

"Hunting? Ok well erm thank you, it was very considerate, I guess I did have to deal with a few things which you managed to make possible. And no. Everything is fine, 'Hunting' does not need disposing of. And I thought you said he was a 'good kid'" I spoke using a lot of hand gestures to make sure Dylan understood since he wasn't really paying attention but still glaring at 'Hunting'.

"Yeahh, he is a good kid. I like him." Dylan said whilst smiling very creepily and just as I was about to question his sanity and bipolar-ness we were soon stopped by Nathan who finally decided to show up.

"Nat!" I hugged him as he returned and whispered a little, "Happy birthday Tas" into my ears.

"Where were you? You usually come three hours before to ensure no one finishes the fancy cheese sticks." I questioned.

"I had some business to attend to." Why was he acting so hostile? He's usually the life of the party. I know he'll let loose after the food though, for sure.

I raised my eyebrows and smiled as we also began dancing.

It all felt normal. More normal than it should have and I liked it. My friends and family, everyone was here and things felt great.

Maybe this is the day things really do change. I mean I know I said it before but I wasn't sure if I meant it. I think I do now...

It feels good to let go.

"Hey where'd you go?" Nathan snapped his fingers as I returned back to reality.

"The songs finished..." He stated whilst looking at me with curious eyes.
