Chapter 35: Please Don't Leave Me

Liz's P.O.V.

     I knew it wasn't any of my business, but I had to open it. I had to know what's in it that had to be locked in the drawer. Was he hiding it from me?

     I didn't know what to do, my gut was telling me to open it and that's what I did. After few seconds when I finish reading it, everything was so much clearer to me.

     "Liz, I'm home.", I heard him coming through the front door. "Liz? You there?", he asked after I didn't respond. "Oh, there you are. You still mad at me?", I still didn't answer.

Billy's P.O.V.

     She got up from bed and turned to me showing me the letter, that nobody supposed to find.

     "What's this?", she asked, demanding the answer.

     "How did you...?"

     "Billy, I want fucking explanation! Is this true?"

     "Okay, okay, fine. But before I tell you this, I need you to know that I have always loved you."

     "Oh my God.", she was on the edge of the tears. "So it is true?"

     "Liz...", I wanted to touch her.

     "Don't touch me! Just get away from me!", she yelled and pushed me away.

     Tears were falling down her face now.

     "Please, look at me.", I said. "I need you to hear me out, okay?"

     "Were you ever going to tell me?", she ignored me and just asked straight away.

     "Yeah, but I didn't know how or when.", I answered.

     She was silent for awhile and so was I. I didn't know what to say, and neither did she.

     "Do you love her? Your sister?", she finally asked.

     "I don't know.", I told the truth.

     I didn't know what I felt for Betty, but I knew it's something strong.

     "We could've had it all.", she said, getting up from the bed.

     "We still can, Liz. We'll survive this, like...", she immediately cut me off.

     "We? There is no more us.", she said. "There's no way we're coming back from this."

     "What are you saying?", I looked at her confused. "Are you breaking up with me?"

     "Yeah.", she looked at the floor. "I never thought it would end like this, but...", one tear slipped her eye.

     She handed me the letter and went to the front door.

     "Liz, please. Don't leave.", I was about to cry.

     I care about her a lot and I love her, but just not the same way I love Betty.

     "Give me one single reason why I shouldn't leave?", she asked looking back at me, but I was silent. "I wasted so much time on you, Billy. I'm so done with you.", she left slamming the door.

     "You deserve so much better than me anyway.", I whispered to myself.

Betty's P.O.V.

     Steve has been avoiding me all day in school. He doesn't want to talk to me, he doesn't even want to look at me. I'm afraid I lost him.

     When he ran to each other in the hallway, he just goes the other way or just pretends he doesn't see me and that hurted a lot.

     I couldn't take it anymore, so I ran to the bathroom and cried. I needed to let this out of me. After I finished, I got out of the cabin and looked my puffy and red eyes at the mirror.

     "Oh, Betty.", Liz got out of cabin. "Just the person I was looking for.", she wiped her eyes, I could tell she was crying too but I didn't know why.

     "Oh, hey Liz. What's up?", I smiled pretending I didn't cry, but my eyes gave me away. "Is everything okay?"

     "Glad you asked. Umm no, it's not okay. Everything is not okay, Betty. And that's your fault."

     "What...what are you talking about?", I was confused and I didn't know what to think.

     "You lied to me!", she raised her voice. "How could you? You looked straight in my face and fucking lied to me!", she started crying.

     "Lied to you about what?", I was losing my patience.

     "About Billy. Or should I say Billy and you.", at that moment I was speechless. "What?! You have nothing to say? Shocking."

     "How did you..."

     "How did I what? Found out? It doesn't matter, the point is I did.", she said. "I thought you were nice and sweet, and I thought we're becoming friends, but..."

     "Enough!", I couldn't take this anymore. "That what happened between Billy and me was long time before you. So you have no right to blame me or even judge me. Because he's not really my brother."

     "And what you're telling me that you don't have any feelings for him anymore? Nothing?"

     "I did, before he left, but not anymore.", I said. "Trust me on that."

     "How can I trust you after everything? Plus you're just a brotherfucker. So please just stay away with me, I don't want anything to do with people like you.", she said leaving the room.

     Just when she closed the door, I fell to the floor and burst into crying. After few seconds someone came in and I saw Steve.

     "Steve? What are you doing here? This is a girl's toilet.", I said wiping my tears away.

     "Yeah, I'm aware of that.", he laughed a little. "I saw you ran to the toilet and you didn't come out for a long time, so I got a little worried.", he said. "And after, I saw Liz getting out of the toilet so I asked her about you and she just went pass me. So I knew something happened.", he explained how he ended up here. "She found out, hasn't she?"

     I just nodded and started crying just thinking about it. "I can't take this anymore, Steve. I just can't."

     He sat next to me on the floor and pulled me into a hug. "Shhh. I'm here now. Everything's gonna be okay.", he said holding me tight in his arms

     "Please don't leave me.", I murmured.

     "I won't. I promise.", he kissed my head.
