Chapter eight: almost kiss

My lips are almost completely on his now- "WHAT THE HELL!" I hear some one shout, I immediately recognise it to be Madge's voice.

I sit back and skid over to the side of the bench seat, Peeta does the same.

"Don't pretend you didn't do that!" Madge's head is bent over the back of the bench seat, looking between Peeta and I.

I can't help feeling like the biggest idiot on the planet. I've always hated people who cheat and now I'm one of them.

Peeta is staring at the ground feeling bad, he looks up into my eyes, I can see the pain he's feeling right now. "I'm so sorry I totally forgot-" he starts but I cut him off.

"No. You shouldn't be apologising, I should. I can't expect you to remember every little word I said, and it's my fault for leaning in. I'm just so sorry. Now I've made you feel bad and that's really not fair." I'm suppressing tears right now, words can't explain how bad I feel right now.

Peeta slides over to me and puts his arm around me, I put my head in his chest, "It's okay," I'm crying into his shirt. "No it's not."

"Yes it is. I'm not telling anyone, Peeta's not telling anyone and I'm sure your not telling anyone." says Madge, "I'm so sorry I lashed out on you, it's not hard to be attracted to him, I understand." I look up to Peeta who's blushing and pretending he didn't hear what Madge said.

I snuggle back down into Peeta's chest, he's really warm. Madge gives me a funny look and I just say, "He's my friend."

Peeta smiles down at me. "Well you are." I say it as if it's the most obvious thing in the world.

"Well my parents can't tell me I haven't been making any friends then." he says sarcastically.

"Friends is fine, but Katniss remember Gale. If anything like this happens again I will tell him." Madge says very seriously.

I look at Peeta who gives me a smile which I immediately return.

"Madge." I say.

"Yes?"

"Why did you come back anyway? I thought you were going to get changed." I say only realising now.

"I forgot my handbag." she says as she picks it up.

"Oh." is all I say.

New chapter yay!

I have a camp this weekend so it may be a while before I upload a new chapter. I'll try and get one in this week though.
