Chapter 4

(Summer's Point of View)

My hair flew back, dancing along with the wind that poured through the open window beside me. The radio was on high, pumping out 'King of Anything' by Sara Bareilles, and I had this big smile on my face as I sang along to the lyrics.

"Who cares if you disagree? You are not me! Who made you king of anything? So you dare tell me who to be. Who died and made you king of anything?" I yelled at the top of my lungs with the chorus, while Will only stared at me approvingly with dark shades he had found in the glove compartment covering his eyes.

He stuck his tongue out at me and grinned and I leaned back in my chair a let out a wild, loud laugh, clapping my hands together. How was it, that I had only known this guy for a few hours, and yet I was so willing to let go of everything that made me, me?

We pulled into a starbucks, and I couldn't help but blink as he opened the door for me. I looked up at him, mouth hanging open, "How did you...?" I asked trailing off. Well, it looks like I could just order a coffee for Deanna right before we'd left and I'd be good to go. Had Will read my mind or something?

"How did I what?" Will asked, with raised eyebrows, as he flipped his shades back, his eyes looking straight into mine. "Do you not want to go hear or something? Did I pick the wrong place? Wow... a girl who hates Staryucks..."

"No, no," I hurried to reassure him, my arms waving, "This is perfect- wait. Staryucks?"

Will grinned at me, "It's a family joke I guess you could say. I don't think the place is gross at all, but my parents hate coffee. The think it's really bad for you, so they avoid the stuff. Thus, they call this place Staryucks, and I suppose it just caught on."

"That's funny!" I told him with a smile, and he grinned, "You think?" I nodded, and then with a coy smile added, "You could be a regular comedian Mr. Marks." Will just rolled his eyes. He held out his hand, and I took it, allowing him to lead me inside and to a seat.

"So," he asked, "what do you want?"

"Hmmm..." I thought for a moment, scanning the menu. "Cinnamon Dolce Crème Frappuccino." I finally decided, and he started laughing.

I glared at him, with eyes full of suspicion, "What?"

He grinned at me, as he pulled some cash out of his wallet. "That's what I was going to get too." He laughed, and I couldn't help but laugh also. I pulled my wallet out of my pocket, but Will just shook his finger at me and refused to accept it, "Nuh-uh."

"What? I need to pay." I told him, and he looked at me, "Do you pay for yourself with Max?"

"Yes."

He blinked, "Well, that wasn't the answer I was expecting all I admit, but this time I'm the one who's paying, ok?"

I shrugged, it didn't make any difference to me, "Whatever you say Will."

Will just shook his head and mumbled to himself as he walked away, "Makes her pay for the drinks herself... what a jerk." I covered my mouth with my hand as I let out a tiny giggle.

I sat at the table swinging my legs, waiting for Will to return, when my phone buzzed from a text. I picked it up and checked the ID; Max. Uh-oh. I opened the text gingerly, like it were a vile of snake venom just waiting to be dropped.

'Where r u?' I read. I swallowed nervously, my eyes darting around to something I could use. A girl coughed behind me. "Sorry," she told her friend with watery eyes. "I think I'm getting a cold."

A cold, that was it!

'Sorry, I wasn't feeling well. I went home early.' I responded.

'Why was Will w/u?' Came the response lighting fast. I read it over again one more time, just take make sure I was reading it right. Why did he care?
