Five. That is the number of times Karylle rejected him.

Flashback

"Mahal na mahal pa rin kita."

Yun ang sinabi ko sakanya. Pero wala akong narinig na sagot galing sakanya. Nakatingin lang siya sakin na para bang meron halong emosyon sa mga mata nya. Huminga ako ng malalim. Nako, eto na yata. Basted na naman si bakla.

"Karylle? Magsalita ka naman oh. Ang sabi ko ma--"

"Narinig ko."

"Karylle..."

"Vice, don't. Just don't say anything, okay?"

"Pero..."

"Sinabi ng wag ka ng magsalita e!"

Their cart finally opened at sinalubong sila nila Anne, Vhong, Nico na may malaking ngiti.

"Hey!" Anne greeted with a big smile, but it slowly faded when Karylle just walked past them. Napatingin naman sila Vhong at Anne kay Vice na bakas sa mukha ang pagkakalungkot.

Yun ang unang rejection ni Vice nung gabing yun. The second time he got rejected was the number of times he tried to call her but only went straight to her voicemails. He couldn't even remember the number of messages he had sent her but there was still no reply.

Karylle, please answer my call. Let's talk, please

K, nakakaloka ka naman e. Sagutin mo na.

Karylle, hanggang kailan mo ko dededmahin?

The third time he got rejected was when he knocked on her door 3 days after that incident. He knocked a couple of times until Karylle opened the door.

"Ka--" and the door shut right in front of his face.

"Karylle! Mag-usap naman tayo, please! Buksan mo tong pinto!" He knocked continuously.

"Wala na tayong dapat pag usapan, Vice. Umalis ka na." He heard her say on the other side.

He stayed. He waited. He waited until it started to rain. There was still no sign of Karylle.

The fourth time he got rejected was when he went to the police department pero pinagtabuyan lang siya ni Karylle at pinaalis. Hindi man lang siya pinagsalita nito.

Vhong nudged Vice's elbow who seemed to be deep in his thoughts. "Brad, natahimik ka bigla. Anong iniisip mo?"

Vice sighed, "Iniisip ko lang mga pinagdaanan namin ni Karylle. Grabe, hindi ko alam kung handa na ko. Paano kung itulak na naman nya ko palayo?" He received a light punch on the arm after asking.

"Kung ano ano na naman iniisip mo dyan. Dapat positive lang tayo, Brad!" He tried to encourage him.

"Pero paano nga kung ayaw na talaga nya?"

"Eh di wala na tayong magagawa. Ang mahalaga sinubukan mo pero kung talagang ayaw na nya, pakawalan mo na."

His words hit him really hard he felt his chest tightened. He wasn't ready to let her go. He sighed and looked down, already feeling hopeless. He hurt her and he will forever regret it. Vhong shook his shoulders.

"Brad! Ayaw mo bang magkabalikan kayo ni Karylle?"

"Parang sira 'to. Syempre gusto! Ano ba naman klaseng tanong yan."
