I woke up and looked over at Niall, who was gone. There was a plate of toast in his place with a letter. It read:

Good Morning Beautiful,

I got a call from Danny this morning and we both are going down to the police station to get their advice on the situation. Hopefully I’ll be back by the time you wake up, but if I’m not, I left my robe with your breakfast so you can wear it if you’re cold. ;)

 Love, Niall

I got up and put on the robe. It smelled like him, which was nice. I took the plate of toast downstairs and was hoping Niall was back already, but he wasn’t. I sat at the bar and ate a piece of toast, and I didn’t hear anything. I walked into my old room and looked into the fort. No one was in there. Where did they go? Maybe to practice or something? So I’m home alone. Awesome. I decided to take a shower. Surely someone would be back when I finished. I went upstairs, took a shower, put back on Niall’s clothes and robe, and came back down the stairs. Really, where was everyone? I only had a few hours before I needed to leave to go to the meeting at church. Hopefully someone would be back by then. I decided to waste some more time and watch some TV. I hadn’t in a long time. I flipped through the channels and found the news station. The headline stopped me. It was “Pastor’s Daughter Out to Kill.” I started to freak out, but then I realized I could call Niall. As I started heading up the stairs to get my phone, the front door knob started shaking, like someone was trying to break in. I sprinted up the stairs and leaned over the rail to look through the window. I saw that Larinda was messing with the door handle, and she had what looked like a crowbar in her hand. I ran to the bedroom to find my phone, and that’s when I heard the door bust open. I quietly shut the door behind me and locked it, grabbed my phone, ran into the bathroom, locked the door, and headed for the closet. It was quiet. I took the dresser in the closet and pushed it in front of the door as quietly as I could as I called Niall. I was definitely panicking at this point.

Niall: Lindsey?

Lindsey: (trying to whisper) Niall! She’s here!

Niall: Who’s there?

Lindsey: Larinda!

Niall: Who?

Lindsey: Larinda! She broke down the front door!

Niall: I’m on my way with the police right now. Lindsey, I know it’s hard but I need you to calm down. I need you to go to our bedroom and lock the door, then go to the bathroom and lock the door, and then—

Just then the door to the bedroom was pushed open. I could hear her.

Larinda: Lindsey, I know you’re in here. Come on out. I just want to talk.

Lindsey: Niall, I’m in the closet. She’s in the bedroom. Hurry, please. I think she’s going to kill me.

Niall: We’re almost there! Babe, just go sit in the corner. I’m almost there.

The bathroom door busted open. I could hear her walking now. I started praying.

Lindsey: God, please help me. I know I ask for a lot, but please please please help me. I really don’t want to die.

Larinda: Praying’s not going to help, Lindsey. Nothing can help you now. It’s just you and me.

I heard the crowbar jab into the closet door.

Lindsey: Niall? Niall?

She knocked off the handle of the closet door and opened it up, pushing the dresser with the door. I dropped the phone and I grabbed the closest thing to me. This long green umbrella. Great. Larinda started walking towards me.
