Recap…

As I rounded the corner towards the food court someone abruptly ran into my right side.

“Whoa. Are you alright sir”, I said placing my hand on the old man’s shoulder. The old man placed his hand over mine, pulling it into both his hands. “Satan filius Ive 'instituo unus. Accipe hanc puellam et eam alteri,” he whispered before he letting go of my hand. It stung for a few quick seconds but went away instantly. I opened my mouth to ask what he said but he just smiled and walked away.

Chapter 14

The sun was low in the sky, rays of sunlight dimly filling the streets below as it inched lower and lower behind the snow covered bluffs. It was starting to get cold outside so I stuffed my hands into my jacket pockets as Kurt walked by my side carrying all my bags like they weighted nothing.

I closed the front door as Kurt took my bags into Sebastian’s room. Shrugging out of my coat I placed it on the coat rack, when something black caught my eye. Upon my right wrist sat a black circle that looked like it was etched right into my skin, like a tattoo. It had a black star within the circle that contained the letter D written in red cursive font. I looked at it in bewilderment, because I had never seen this in my life. I was afraid of needles and couldn’t even get my ears pierced when I was younger, so there was no way I would ever get a tattoo.

I tried rubbing it to see if it was just an ink spot or if I touched something that had wet paint on it but it didn’t budge. Walking towards the sink I ran some hot water hoping that some hot water and soap would make it come off. After a few minutes of vigorous scrubbing I rinsed off my wrist to see the mark was still there. What the hell is this! And why won’t it come off?

“Kate is something wrong?” I whipped my head around to see Kurt standing at the end of the hallway with his arms crossed. I wonder if I should tell him about it? Could he possibly know what it is? Maybe he knows how to get it off or mayb-.

“Kate, hello. Are you feeling alright? Do you feel light headed?” Shaking my head I decided to tell Kurt about the mysterious tattoo, hoping he could possibly know what it was, or even where it came from. “ No I’m fine, its just this…thing on my wrist,” I said quietly turning my hand over so Kurt could see the mark, “I took off my jacket and I found it. At first I though it was just paint or something but then after scrubbing it with soap and hot water it wouldn't come off.” I watched as Kurt’s eyes zeroed in on the black and red mark that lined my pale skin. His eyes widened for a second before he swallowed hard.

Kurt pulled my wrist closer to his face, tracing his thumb slowly over the mark. “I can‘t believe it,“ Kurt whispered.

“Kurt what is it, please tell me what it is!“

“It’s a demon’s mark,” he whispered, before he abruptly let go off my hand and turned around walking back into Sebastian’s room, slamming the door behind him. Well that was helpful.

I walked towards the couch and sat down, slowly tracing a finger over the mark. The demon’s mark. Of course if there were vampires there had to be demons I guess. There’s probably werewolves frolicking through the woods nearby too. I just can’t believe everything that’s happened to me in the last couple of days. First, I get kidnapped by a vampire that sends my body into utter chaos from just a single heated glance and now I’ve been marked by a demon I supposedly met a today without even knowing about it. Don’t demons usually have horns and a tail? I blame evolution.
