Dean and Sam froze but soon saw John. The older brother went to him and then stood back to watch the interaction between his father and younger brother.

The attack by the daevas was a total surprise, but they managed to overwhelm them and get out.

Sam wanted them to stay together, but Dean realized the danger. John agreed with his older son, and the three parted ways. No one saw the demon.

Dean knew he had upset his brother but knew it wasn't the first time and would certainly not be the last. John was a volatile topic, and he just wanted to get them safely out of Chicago.

He drove quietly for several hours. When he reached a major east/west freeway, he headed west out of Illinois into Missouri. His only thought to protect Sammy and Dad.
