Dean and Cassie said goodbye, and the hunter struggled to remain calm when she told him she knew it would never work. He thought he had done well when he kept the tremor from his voice when he responded with "Stranger things have happened."

As he got into the car and Sam talked about the woman and the wish that things could be different, he carefully shoved the thoughts of a relationship into the part of his brain where he kept all things he knew were taboo. All Dean knew was the past twenty-two years of his life had been different.

You don't attempt to have relationships because they never last. They never work out. One night stands to satisfy an urge and a need he didn't want to put a name to were all he would allow.

At least he had one good memory of Cassie now. He bit his bottom lip and turned on the radio as they drove out of town.
