Prior to debut Akdong Musicians released the single "Galaxy" under their agency Proteurment. The song was later used on the soundtrack for a Samsung Galaxy 4 commercial. They were a duo group formed on K-pop Star 2 in 2012 and later went on to win the season. The duo (who are siblings) then signed with YG. As of July 2016 they have sold 16.7 million digital singles. Lee Chanhyuk wrote and produced every song on their debut album Play, which debuted at number two on the Billboard's US World Albums Chart.
