The boys of iKon were chosen through the survival show Mix&Match. The three members confirmed for the group (before the survival show) were Jinhwan, Bobby and B.I. Six other trainees competed for the remaining four spots. These three along with Yunhyeong, Junhoe and Donghyuk were part of Team B from WIN. WIN was another survival show before Mix&Match in which Team A and B competed to become debut as WINNER. Team B lost and continued on to the survival show Mix&Match, where three more contestants were added. Two trainees (Yang Hong Suk and Jung Jin Hyeong) left YG after being eliminated from Mix&Match. Yang Hong Suk later debuted as a member of Pentagon and Jung Jin Hyeong debuted as a solo artist. Between WIN and Mix&Match, Team B released a self-produced and self-written song called "Wait for Me" for fans who had to wait for them to debut after they lost WIN. YG gave them the name iKon because he wants them to become an icon who represents Korea. All the members from Team B debuted as iKon along with trainee Chan. On January 28, 2015, Billboard listed them as one of the Top 15 K-Pop Artists to Watch in 2015 and they were the only group listed that hadn't yet debuted. B.I. produced and co-composed all of the tracks on their debut album Debut Half Album. Bobby contributed to all lyrics for the tracks and Ju-ne helped compose the title track "Rhythm Ta". They took their first music show win on September 26, 2015 with "My Type". In 2016 they participated in a Chinese dance survival program called Heroes of Remix and became the artist that won the most on the show. As of March 2017, the group has sold over 330,000 physical albums and over 5.6 million digital records.
