"Val hurry up I gotta go" I yelled
I was dropping her off at her grandma Mia's house. I had a job interview that I wasn't trying to miss
"Mommy can you help me" she asked
"How did you get this stuck in your hair honey" I asked her getting it out "let's go Valerie!" I said getting my keys and headed out the door with her.

When we got to the house I beeped my car horn for who ever was in the house to come get her. After beeping 10 times Kings younger sister Genesis came out
"Val get out the car" I said to her putting down the window
"Sit yo ass back in the car Mami" Genesis blurted out
"Um, Mia told me to bring her" I said to her
"Mia isn't here yet" she said with an attitude
"Well I have an interview I need to be at in 10 minutes so can she go in the house" I said taking out my phone to check the time. Genesis just ignored me and went back in the house
"Get out the car Valerie" I said getting out also
We went inside the house since the door was opened a crack. There was a lot of kids running around. Mia had a bunch of grand kids that she also watched. Genesis was in the kitchen talking on the phone
"Go sit down with the other kids" I said to Valerie
I went over to the kitchen table
Me: where's your mom?
G: I'm on the phone Loren excuse yourself
Me: well I'm leaving Valerie here
G: you can't!
Me:why not?
G: I'm going out
Me: who's watching the other kids?
G:Loren you can't leave her here damn, if you need a babysitter so badly get a nanny or some shit
Me: listen Genesis. I don't know what you have against my daughter, but she's your niece as much as these other girls are-
Mia: hey! What's going on here
Me: I'm dropping off Val I have an interview to go to, miss over here wants to catch an attitude
Genesis stood up from her seat. She walked over to the living room and picked up Valerie bringing her to me.
G: Ma, tell her you not gonna be home today and I'm not watching Valerie, she has a mom that could do that. Ella tiene que dejar (she has to leave)
M: cálmate mi amor (calm down my love)
They continued to speak in Spanish when they knew I didn't understand it. They could talk all the shit they want in Spanish and I still wouldn't understand. But by the look on Genesis face I don't think Valerie would be staying here.
"Why can't your granddaughter stay here" I asked Mia "She's your niece too Genesis is she not?" I said nearly in tears
"Honestly my brother knocking you up was a mistake. And he couldn't even be here to see the mistake he created with you" she mumbled walking away
"Mommy, I hungry" Valerie tapped me rubbing her eyes
I looked at Mia just staring at Val like she was some peasant "Loren just take her" she said
"Mommy!" Valerie shouted
"Let's go Valerie" I picked her up and left the house.
I put her in her car seat and went to sit down.
Genesis came outside and was headed to her car "look Chica, don't you realize that my mom doesn't want Valerie in her family anyway,"
Me: But she is-
G: I was only playing dumb in there, since my bro died, she doesn't take Valerie as her granddaughter, that was her step son so...
I got out the car and closed the door behind me
Me: y'all some fake mothafuckers
G: it's not me Mami its my mom so watch who you talk to like that
Me: If my daughter wasn't in the car Genesis your ass would be dead on the floor, remember that when I see you again
G: *chuckling* if only you know how stupid you look right now
She got into her car and drove away. I got back in my car "bitch" I mumbled to myself
It was 11:27 a.m and I already missed my interview which was at 10:30.
Genesis and Mia will always be Valerie's family if her dad is dead or not. When Genesis said what she said I just wanted to burst out in tears. But that would show the weak side of me, and she'll look like she won. If we weren't in a house full of kids I swear I would have slapped a bitch for talking so much shit.
"Mommy?" Valerie mumbled "mommy why you crying"
"Come here baby" I uttered picking her up to sit on my lap
Me: you didn't hear anything auntie Genesis said right
V: mean auntie Genesis? No what did she say
Me: *smirked* nothing but, she said something about Daddy
V: Daddy... I miss him mommy
Me: I miss him too. Look from now on you don't have to come to mean auntie Genesis house okay?
V: yay! K mommy
Me: Yeaa. So let's go home and order some pizza and chicken wings, just me and you
She cheered in the back, whilst I drove us home.

"Girl your a strong bitch" Jennifer laughed stuffing pizza in her mouth
"I know" I smirked "but it just made me feel so bad, girl I just wanted to cry. But Val was there and I know I have to be strong for her"
"Girl fuck being strong Loren. Sometimes you gotta sit there and think about these things. Think and cry out your pain" she advised me
"Yea I guess your right" I shrugged
"Chelsea!! Baby come get some wings" Jennifer shouted
"Girl I bought these for my daughter!" I laughed grabbing the chicken
