*Autumn's POV*

Christmas was over in the blink of an eye. After the big build up, and a few hours of a day, it's all over.
It was only a small get together with family, but it was the best yet.

Emilia was on the mend, yesterday she ate a small sandwich.
Seeing my friend at her worst, unable to eat; and now seeing her eating again, more and more each day, looking more healthy... It made me so unbelievably proud .

Caspar was helping her through it all, making her laugh; like her old self.
I couldn't thank him enough.

Joe was also amazing. Eventhough he might not think he did a lot, he helped me out more than he could imagine.
After the accident he helped me get back to my normal self. And after seeing the state Emilia was in, he kept my spirtits high. He made sure i wasn't sad, and whenever i was, he would soon change that.
It may seem Cringy or corny, but to be honest... He's the best thing that's ever happened to me.

Today was New Years Eve, and once again i was spending my time at Joe and Caspar's place with them and Emilia.
It was like our ritual now; that on any special event, we spent it together.

I put on my black turtle-neck crop top, with blue ripped jeans.
I also put on my grey boyfriend jacket, and my grey adidas shoes.

Before leaving, i grabbed my rabbit onsie, as we all said we'd change into pajamas later on in the night.

Round about 22:00 i arrived at their apartment.

I knocked on their door, waiting for someone to answer.

Eventually, the door opened.
But to my suprise it wasn't Joe. Neither was it Caspar or Emilia..

It was a girl, she looked about 20.

'Hello?' The girl asked, confused.

I looked around her towards the living room and saw Caspar cuddled up with Emilia.. But Joe wasn't there.

Who was this girl? Why is she even here?

I came to the assumption... Was Joe cheating on me? Had he found another girl, and the others were keeping his Dirty secret?

'Can i help you?' She asked again.

Joe came walking up the stairs, and when he saw me, he smiled.

'N-no.. I should be leaving' i said, turning around, holding back the urge to cry.

Was Joe just like Lucas? Was i second best again? .. Did he break his promise?

What if his smile was a guilty one? Because i'd found out what he'd been up to?

I couldn't take it anymore. I suddenly started running, and ran out of the block of apartments.

I ran, and ran, letting the tears stream down my face.

All of a sudden, i heard a someone shouting my name.

'Autumn, wait!!' It shouted.

It was Joe; he was running after me.

But the thing that really hurt me was, how could he promise something, that he wasn't going to keep?

I carried on running and running, until i could no longer hear his voice.

I was shivering from the cold, wishing all of the drama in my life could just disappear.

I stopped outside of a small coffee shop, one that i hadn't really noticed before.
I read the sign 'open for New years eve and New year', meaning it was open all night.

I entered the small shop, and the warmth hit my face; causing it to tingle from the sudden temperature change.

I inhaled a sweet biscuit scent, which was soon replaced with a strong coffee scent.

I smiled slightly, and sat down on a table by the window.

A small woman walked over to me was a bright smile, and spoke to me.

'Hello, would you like anything?' She asked me cheerily.

'Erm- just a gingerbread lattè please' i smiled forcingly.

'Sure thing.. How come a beautiful young lady is on her own on the night of a new year?' She seemed intruged.

'Well it's kind of a long story.. But i guess sometimes its better to be alone than get into mischief' i laughed quietly.

'Ah i see-' she smiled, 'one gingerbread lattè coming up'

After a few minutes she came back with my drink, and placed it on the table for me. I held out my hand with my money in.

'No no, it's on me. Count it as a good start to the new year' she chuckled.

'Thank you' i smiled at her warmly, as she walked away to the other people.

I drank my lattè in silence, making sure i didn't answer my phone. And after a while i finished it, making sure i drank every last drop.

I waited a while, deep in my own thought.
I didn't want to go home just yet, because my mum would question why i wasnt still out.. I just didn't need pestering right now.

I finally stood up, and once again thanked the woman for her kindess.

'I didn't quite catch your name?' She asked.

'Autumn, and you?' I asked.

'Catherine. And Have a lovely New year Autumn, i hope things work out for you' she said, holding the door open for me.

'You too' i smiled for the last time, and walked out into the street once again.

I was walking along the street, when it began to rain.

It didn't bother me, i really liked the rain. So i guess it made me feel calm.

I carried on walking, and before i knew it, i was in Hyde Park.

I was too tired to carry on, so i sat down on a wet bench.
To be honest, i couldn't really care right now.

I checked my watch, and it was 23:55 already! Time had passed so quickly, i had forgotten about the new year..
I guess i wasn't getting my midnight kiss this year.

In the corner of my eye i noticed something shining. I looked down... It was my promise ring.

I laughed at my tears, and wiped them away.

In the distance i could hear voices shouting.

'5, 4, 3, 2, 1, HAPPY NEW YEAR!'

Big ben chimed and the dark sky was replaced with fireworks.

I took off my ring and inspected it..

'Happy New Year' i whispered myself.
