Chapter 13

Taehyun opened the main entrance door after his afternoon shift ended at 2pm, surprisingly free for the rest of Wednesday.

"Dad!"

Juhyeok came running towards him with widely stretched out arms. Taehyun knelt down to envelope him into his arms.

"Hey bud, how was your day?"

"Great!"

Juhyeok released himself from the hug and looked at him.

"Can we have cake together? Uncle Gyu prepared some for us!"

"Really?" Taehyun asked.

"Yes!" Beomgyu called from the kitchen.

"Okay. Why not?"

He had some time until 4 pm after all.

"So, what kind of cake?" Taehyun asked.

"Blueberry chocolate."

Beomgyu set the cake platter down, and they sat around the counter to eat. Juhyeok was making grabby hands towards the pastry, but Taehyun placed his hand on his so he'd keep his excitement down.

"Just wait."

"Okie."

Beomgyu cut the cake into slices and gave the biggest piece to Juhyeok.

"I promised him," he said.

"Fine."

Juhyeok dug into his cake and ate it with a happy smile.

"It's so good! Thanks Uncle Gyu!"

"No worries."

He looked at his best friend.

"Your thoughts?"

Taehyun took a bite.

"You're better at baking than you were in high school."

"Which was what, seven years ago? Of course I'd improve!"

The brunette chortled.

"Fine, fine."

Juhyeok finished his cake quickly.

"Dad, Uncle, I need to do homework, may I be excused?"

"Of course. I'll see you tonight," Taehyun said.

Juhyeok frowned.

"Why?"

"I have something scheduled for 4 pm, but I'll be here on time to watch a movie with you."

The son only nodded, before heading upstairs without another word.

Beomgyu glanced at Taehyun the moment he was out of sight.

"Another date?"

"What else," Taehyun sighed, picking the plate up.

"Don't you think Juhyeok should know at some point what you're doing?"

"What do you mean?"

"Imagine if you one day come to Juhyeok and out of nowhere introduce some random woman and say 'Oh, Juju, here is your new mom; hope you like her'," Beomgyu straightforwardly said.

"Hyung!"

He stood up.

"I'm telling you the truth Taehyun!"

The brunette struggled to form the words to clap back at him.

As always, Beomgyu was right.

"You can't keep this hidden forever. Juhyeok needs to know, so that he won't be utterly shocked if the scenario happens, and to finally give him answers. He wants to know where you've been at night, and why you haven't been spending so much time with him."
