you sighed softly to yourself as you searched the library for a book you had needed for the past week. it had translation instructions for a language you nor secondo, your mentor, knew very well.

someone had been hogging it—and every time the book log said it was on the shelves, it was gone.

you arrived at the section the book should've been in, seeing it's spot empty. you frowned, bringing your hands up and massaging your temples as you took a deep breath.

this was just getting ridiculous. honestly, who had the nerve to ignore the book log? have they no courtesy? did they know one of the papas needed it? clearly not.

you turned on your heel and went to walk to the library doors, only to run into someone. you yelped, apologizing as you stepped back. though, when you looked up, you saw a grinning, golden-eyed ghoul.

"oh... uh, hello." you acknowledged. the ghouls of the ministry had never interacted with you before unless they were stationed and instructed to help siblings. even then, there was nothing conscious about the interaction. they were working. this ghoul seemed to be off duty.

the ghoul just made a rumbling sound, his grin being entirely discredited with how aggressive the noise was. your eyes widened and you cowered away, not wanting to have upset the ghoul.

"'m sorry. i didn't mean to bump into you." you apologized, glancing up at the ghoul after. he looked utterly confused, which confused you as well. you brushed past it, though, quickly rushing by him with another apology and goodbye.

the ghoul chirped as he tried to reach out to you. though, when he missed your arm he made a sound of disappointment, looking down at his hands as he sighed.

he looked up again as he heard you yelp.

the ghoul trilled, a grin forming on his face again when he saw you had been stopped by one of his pack mates. you couldn't say the same for your expression.

the new ghoul was significantly shorter, but had much more aggression than the first. the new ghoul was making a similar rumbling sound, though, with his teeth barred aggressively, you knew exactly what he was trying to get across.

the two ghouls spoke to each other, yet your fear drowned out their voices and the fact that they were speaking in a different language.

the smaller ghoul grabbed your wrist, his fiery eyes burning into yours, challenging you to run. you swallowed, shrinking your posture as a subconscious way of showing you weren't going to do anything the didn't like.

the small ghoul's eyes lit up happily when he saw your submission, his hand slipping from your wrist to your palm, his fingers lacing with yours as he and the bigger ghoul excitedly rushed you through the ministry halls.
