"You could at least put a smile on your face" My mom whispered glaring at me. I turned to look at her refusing to smile, or anything like it.
"You're lucky you got me to wear this" I pointed to the ridiculous outfit she had me wearing. My mom looked me up at down with a scowl.
"y/n I've had enough of your bullshit" She leaned closer. "You need to make nice with these people" She pointed to all the people around us. People that had more money than sense. All trying to outdo one another my parents included. "This is where we're living now, these are going to be your peers" I looked at the people that seemed to be my age, yeah right. "So put a smile on and be nice" Her voice was harsh. She stood up and started to walk away from the table. As soon as her back was turned I raised my hand flipping her off. Ugh, I swear, I could feel the heat building up. Sometimes I just wanted to scream at her. Or just scream in general. I stayed sat in that chair, a few people passed but didn't say anything. Another half an hour passed and a guy with a microphone appeared on the stage just ahead.

"I hope everyone's having a great time" The guy smiled, his white suit obviously new. His dark hair slicked back. Some people responded and the man nodded. "Well, now it's time to welcome our hosts, Mr Cameron and Mrs Cameron" People clapped as the man pointed to the back door of the house. Out walked a middle-aged man and blonde woman who looked a little younger than him, this must be Ward Cameron and his wife Rose. I had heard about them from our neighbours, rich people love to gossip. The pair stood waving at the crowd, their smiles faker than their personalities. I leaned back into the white wooden chair as the pair walked down the steps, a few people greeting them. "And let's welcome their children..." I turned back to the back door, a boy with blonde hair strode out first, he acted as though he was the main host, he seemed to look down at the people. "Rafe Cameron" The man with the microphone announced, the boy, Rafe just sorted his tie out before making his way down the steps not speaking to anyone, he just walked across the grass to what was supposed to be my 'peers'. I turned back to the door to see a small girl, she didn't carry the same amount of confidence as the brother, she fidgeted with her dress and quickly made her way down the steps and disappeared into the crows "Wheezie Cameron" Wheezie? I turned back to the door just as a blonde stepped out. My breath got caught in my throat as the girl walked out. She was absolutely stunning. She had the confidence as the guy but the sweetness of the girl. She smiled as she looked out at everyone. I let out a cough reaching for the glass of water I had. I took a drink before turning to look back at the girl, she elegantly walked down the stairs talking to people as she went or offering them a smile. "Sarah Cameron" The speaker finally announced her name, I found myself eager to hear it. Sarah pushed a strand of hair behind her ear as she laughed at whatever the person was saying. I turned to look at the person a little jealous that I wasn't that person. She smiled and nodded and I couldn't help but stare. After a few seconds, her smile faded as she turned to look left, a tall blonde boy in a grey suit made his way toward her. The boy walked over bending down to kiss her but Sarah turned her head the boy kissing her cheek, of course, she has a boyfriend. I picked my drink back up looking at what was inside. This is going to be a long night.

My mom had tried to get me to socialise but I shot down every conversation. I knew she was going to be furious when we got home but I really couldn't give a fuck. After forcing me to talk to someone called Kelce I dipped and made my way inside the building. I spent my time walking through the many corridors inside. No one seemed to question me. I looked at the many different art pieces that were on the wall. Nothing really to do. After another walk around I made my way out to the porch that overlooked the party. I stood watching the people dance. My eyes fell on Sarah as they had most of the night. She stood with her arms around the neck of the boy from before. Gone was her genuine smile and in its place was a fake one like her parents. I rolled my eyes as he twirled her out, the girl almost stumbling, she grabbed onto him to steady herself. The boy just laughed and looked back at his friends, Sarah's brother Rafe with them. I quickly turned knocking into someone.
"Shit I'm sorry" I apologized to the waiter that was looking at the broken glasses on the floor. The boy took a deep breath his blonde hair falling in front of his face.
"No it was totally my fault" The boy said through gritted teeth. I looked down as he started to collect pieces of the broken glass.
"No it wasn't" I bent down helping him place the glass onto the silver tray, the boy looked up as I helped him. My eyes went from his face to his name tag, JJ. "I shouldn't have turned around like that, I was just annoyed" The two of us quickly picked up the pieces and stood up.
"Anything I can help with?" JJ asked, I couldn't help but look back at Sarah and the boy. "I don't know but you can do better than Topper" I turned to look at the JJ, that must be the guy Sarah's dancing with. I pulled a face looking at JJ.
"I wasn't looking at him" JJ's eyebrows scrunched together before raising.
"Oh, Oh" I couldn't help but laugh a little at him. "Shit I shouldn't have assumed"
"It's okay" I laughed as the boy started to get flustered. The boy held the silver tray with the broken glass on it. "There is something you can help me with though" JJ looked back at me, his cheeks red, he just nodded. "Where can I get a proper drink?"
"You right I can help you with that?" A smirk crossed his face and he signalled me to follow him.

JJ and I downed our third shot, JJ let out a laugh as he placed his shot glass back on the bar. At first, I was worried that JJ may get fired for drinking with me but he reassured me that they were way overstaffed and that most of the staff were just standing around in the kitchen. That he wouldn't be missed.
"You know y/n for a kook you're pretty cool" JJ smiled pouring us another shot, our other drinks at the side of us.
"For a kook? What is that?" I questioned as I picked the shot up, both of us clinking our shots before downing them and placing them on the bar.
"You know" JJ pulled a face after the shot. "Rich people, people that live here, Kooks" JJ pointed at me. "Pogues" then towards himself. "You know Pogues and Kooks don't usually like one another"
"What are we in Romeo and Juliet? I mean come on" JJ pulled another shot shrugging. I took the shot and did the same as before.
"Topper I'm not having this conversation!" JJ and I turned as Sarah and the guy, Topper walked in. Sarah crossed her arms glaring at the boy, I turned to look at JJ who just widened his eyes.
"Oh come on Sarah you're being irrational, you're making things up" Topper started to walk towards the girl, Sarah took a step back shaking her head.
"Don't. Don't try to gaslight me" Topper threw his hands up with a scoff shaking his head. "Just get out of here Topper!" Sarah pointed backwards. Topper again took another step forward. "Out!" Sarah yelled. Topper clenched his jaw before walking passed her.
"You should say something" JJ whispered just loud enough for me to hear. JJ stood up and made his way behind the bar taking our glasses with him. I looked at JJ who just nodded towards Sarah. I watched as the girl, she walked over to the wooden bench and sat down leaning forward and placing her head in her hands. I turned back to JJ as he grabbed the last remaining drink, I reached over to grab the drink before him. I downed the drink before making my way toward Sarah.

"Your boyfriend seems like an ass" I stood just in front of her. Sarah lifted her head.
"He's not my boyfriend, he thinks he is but he's not" Sarah sighed leaning back against the wall. I couldn't help but feel awkward, god. "You're new here right?" Sarah looked me up and down.
"uh, yeah, moved here about three weeks ago" I replied moving from one foot to the other.
"Then how come I'm only just meeting you?" Sarah smiled up at me, I found myself smiling back.
"I usually just keep to myself" Sarah furrowed her eyebrows.
"Now why would you do that?" I had never felt more speechless in my life. I looked away from the girl and down at the floor, I could feel the blush crawling across my cheeks. "I'm Sarah" She smiled.
"Y/n y/l/n" The girl smiled moving across the bench and tapping the empty space next to her.
"So y/n sit" I looked back at JJ and JJ just nodded. I turned back to Sarah and sat on the bench next to her.

The two of us sat talking. Not only was she stunning but she was an amazing person, god if I didn't like her before I did now. The two of us had made our way back outside, the sun had started to set. The pair of us stood watching people dance.
"I usually hate these things, they're boring, but thanks to you this one hasn't been so boring" Sarah smiled at me, again I found myself blushing. "So thank you" She turned back to the crowd. A wave of confidence flooded through me.
"How about we get out of here. I mean you can show me some things here" Sarah turned back to me with a smirk.
"What are we waiting for" She pushed herself off the fence.
