Reconnect

It was now 2am. Kelly and Shay were sitting in Lily's hospital room waiting for her to wake up. Kelly wanted to tell Shay that Lily may be part of The 'Rhodes' family but he didn't because he didn't have the full story.

Shay was asleep on the couch that was in the room and Kelly was sitting in a chair by Lily's bedside. He kept trying to get some sleep but just couldn't. Kelly got up out of the chair and went to look the window that was in Lily's room.

The streets of Chicago completely covered in snow. The road crews had begun cleaning them off since the snow had finally stopped sometime after midnight. Kelly was swimming in his thought trying to figure out how he felt about Lily.

"Kelly?"

Kelly turned around to see that Lily was awake. He couldn't help but smile. "Hey Lil." He walked back over to her bedside and took a seat in the chair.

"What happened?" Lily looked around the room spotting Shay on the couch asleep.

"What's the last thing you remember?"

Lily sat there and thought for a moment. Searching her memories trying to piece together that last thing she remembered. "I remember saving the baby and calling 911 but after that nothing. How's the baby and the mom?"

"Both are going to be just fine."

Lily laid her head back into the pillow and felt relieved. "And the other driver?"

"He died on impact." Kelly took ahold of Lily's hand with his. "Nothing you could of tried would of saved him Lily. You did absolutely everything you could." Lily just smiled because she knew she had made the right choice by going back to the mom.

Lily spotted Shay starting to wake up. Once she was awake, Shay got up off the couch, came over and stood next to Kelly. "Girl I'm so glad to see you are awake and going to be okay."

"Me too." Lily could feel a lump forming in her throat. She was feeling horrible for walking out on them like she had. She swallowed the lump in her throat. "I'm so sorry guys. I shouldn't of walked out like that."

A single tear was rolling down Lily's face. Kelly got up and wiped it away. He placed a hand on her cheek and she looked straight into his eyes. "It's okay. Everything is alright." Lily rested her face into Kelly's warm hand. Feeling comfort and peace wash over her.

Shay took a step forward and stood next to Kelly. "Plus if things didn't happen the way they did." Shay took one of Lily's hands in her's. "That baby and the mom may not of made it."

"Thanks you guys."

Both Kelly and Shay smiled. "But the next time you want to upstage Kelly can we not do it durning a snow storm?" All three of them let out a laugh. Shay always had to try and make light of a grim situation.

"I'll keep that in mind." Lily smiled at her two friends. She didn't know what she would do without either of them.

It had been a couple hours since Lily had woken up. Shay was laying next to Lily in her hospital bed and Kelly was sitting in the chair. They were all chatting and laughing.

Then there was a knock on Lily's door. The door then came open and a doctor walked in. Kelly recognized Dr. Rhodes from when he brought Lily in. The doctor closed the door and walked closer to Lily's bed.

"Glad to see you are awake, Lily flower." The doctor just smiled at her.

Lily recognized the nickname but it couldn't be. "The only person who ever called me that was..." Lily stopped talking as she caught sight of the doctor's badge. She then looked back up to the doctors face. "Connor??" Lily was in shock.

"Hey sis." Dr. Rhodes was all smiles. Shay was so confused. Lily never mentioned a brother, hell she barely ever talked about her family.

Lily couldn't help but to start crying. She reached out her arms signaling she wanted a hug from Connor. Shay got off Lily's bed so Connor could sit and hug his sister.

Lily wrapped her arms around Connor's middle and rested her head against his chest. Connor placed a kiss to the stop of Lily's head. "Everything is going to be alright Lily. I promise."

Lily just nodded her head into his chest. Once Lily had regained composure she let go of Connor and sat up to look at him. "It's so good to see you."

"It's good to see you too." Connor was taking in how much she had grownup and was doing well for herself. "You changed your last name?"

"Yeah when my mom left Cornelius. She changed both of our last names to her maiden name of Jacob's."

Connor chuckled. "I can understand that. So have you been in Chicago all this time?"

"We moved in with my aunt Laura clear across the city. Mom was afraid Cornelius would come looking for us."

"He did try to look for you guys but..." Connor was cut off the by the sounds of the loud speaker.

"Dr. Rhodes to the ED. Dr. Rhodes to the ED."

"I gotta go but I promise you we won't lose contact again. I won't let it happened." Lily nodded her head and Connor placed another kiss to the top of her head. Connor then left to go see what the ED needed.

Once the door was closed. Shay crossed her arms over chest and looked at Lily. "So you actually are apart of THE Rhodes family?"

Lily knew this day might happen but she still wasn't prepared. She was afraid she would lose the only two friends she has ever had. "Yeah I was Lily Rhodes till I was around 6. My mother married Cornelius after his first wife died."

"Well that's cool I guess." Shay took a seat next to Lily on her bed.

"That's it. Neither of you have questions?" Lily knew most of Chicago wondered if her mother was Cornelius mistress. And wonder if the reason Elisabeth Rhodes killed herself was because her mom was pregnant with her.

"No? So what if you were a Rhodes. Your still our Lily Jacob's."
