Taylor Moore joins the Finer Things Society at the last possible minute to satisfy a financial aid requirement, assuming it will be an easy box to check. Instead, he discovers a rigorously structured organization devoted not to nostalgia, but to discipline. When he shows up to the first meeting in jeans and a T shirt, he is calmly turned away. The Society's president, Rosalyn, makes it clear that participation includes presentation, and that standards are not suggestions. At home, his longtime girlfriend Layla reads the handbook he never bothered to open and realizes the depth of what he has signed. What begins as mild embarrassment becomes a reckoning with his lifelong habit of drifting. Forced to rebuild his wardrobe, refine his grooming, and learn the etiquette he once mocked, Taylor slowly confronts the difference between showing up physically and showing up intentionally. As the semester unfolds, the Society does not bend to accommodate him. Instead, it offers structure, correction, and responsibility. Layla, who once found his casualness charming, watches to see whether he will finally take something seriously. Through slips, hosiery, posture training, and the steady authority of Rosalyn's expectations, Taylor begins to understand that refinement is less about femininity and more about follow through. By the time he is entrusted to host a formal salon, he is no longer trying to disappear into the back row. He stands composed, deliberate, and present. The Finer Things Society becomes not a costume, but a crucible, reshaping a young man who once skimmed the surface of his own life into someone capable of discipline, grace, and love that means what it says.

UPDATED: Hello! I've rebranded as Jay Lockhart so I went back and resigned my name as Jay as the author in each haiku. Hope everyone is doing good with everything that's going on in the world. Praying and sending out good vibes and light. ________________________________________________ Here is an example of one of my haiku's. As I stare and watch, The sun beaming down on me, I feel drops of rain. I know, some of my haiku's are not traditional, but they still sound good! Most of the time... ;) My New Years Resolution for 2017 is to write at least one haiku a day. I really missed writing haiku's and I want to get back into it. To my readers: I would really appreciate the likes for my haiku's. It lets me know which ones are good and if y'all actually like my haiku's.

In Greek mythology, Iris is the errand-running messenger of the gods. In anatomy, the iris is responsible for controlling the diameter and the size of the pupil, thus controlling the amount of light that reaches the retina. The two are quite different; however, I believe there is something more than that. A correlation. A connection. The anatomical iris sends the message of the light, the stimuli, the object - whatever that may be - to the retina, then to the brain. In an almost the same way, the mythological Iris sends the message of the gods and goddesses, the message of enlightenment. This collection of poems is my Iris, my messenger that would herald and proclaim these bottled emotions I've kept for too long. © Psyche Adelia. All rights reserved. 2015 [May 25, 2016: Poetry #126]

In July 2017 I lost my uncle. It was my first time experiencing grief and I didn't (still don't) really know how to handle it. It was at my lowest moment that I picked up a notebook and pen and began to write. I wrote everything from letters to poems. I poured my deepest thoughts and feelings straight on to the paper and now I'm sharing them with you. This is my account of grief: Raw, unedited and straight from the heart.
