In the Republic, any child with a flaw is labeled an Unnecessary. Any child who is not created in a lab is hunted down as an enemy of the state. Pregnancy is treason. A Vessel that harbors an Unnnecessary only has one chance. A Protector: one of 26 girls trained to infiltrate the Republic and lead them safely to the Territory. They train for years, studying medicine, technology, physical agility, and espionage. They never choose girls like me. Except... they did. I am Aislyn the 27th Protector of the 188th Generation. I am a threat and a risk because I don't comply with the rules and expectations. I am a target because the Republic kills any Protector who crosses the border. I think my trainer has a secret. And I still don't know if I can stay alive long enough to save a life. www.the27thProtector.com

This is just a loose collection of essays which will have been written either for my undergraduate studies or through personal motive and interest. The first five essays are of the former, but most (unless about pedagogy or education) beyond that will be on my own initiative, hence will be less conventionally structured but probably more passionately written than those in the former group. I enjoy writing essays - ironically just not the ones I am required to write for university. Many of these then will be the fruits of my procrastination towards those other ones.

It's the worst time in the nation's history of reproductive laws for someone like Katherine, who doesn't want a child, to learn she's pregnant. In this environment, not having a child will be a challenge. Katherine isn't afraid of a challenge. 29 years later... It's probably the worst possible time in the nation's history of reproductive laws for Millie - well, for someone like Millie - to decide she wants to be pregnant. Getting pregnant requires government approval, and cheating the system means imprisonment in a mysterious facility known as Exile. In this environment, a pregnancy for someone like Millie is all but impossible. Millie doesn't believe in "impossible."

Summer, 1967: the Summer Of Love. Mary Caroline Kildare's head is still reeling from the death of her best friend four months before. The times are changing with a war raging overseas, civil rights being issued, feminism sweeping the girls at school, all the young people free loving, and the youth rejecting society. Caroline is tired of the superficialness and anarchy of it all and spends much of her time alone. She has fallen out of her relationship with God and man alike, but still longs for companionship. Her prayers are answered when the handsome, sweet, all American boy, Jimmy Romano, strolls into her Malt Shop late one night and makes her believe in love and happiness again. She is convinced that God sent Jimmy as an angel to save her, but then the world comes in and crosses their stars. Caroline begs God for a sign that he is good and isn't abandoning the world, but he seems to be silent. In order to find consolation, she must find her place in her changing world and fight to make things as right as they can be.

We live in a time and age in which a vegan is glorified and a pro-lifer (anti-abortionist) is condemned by the secular world! This situation confuses many Christians - the young and the old. Youngsters seem to think that being a vegan is to be kind to the animals. While this may be true, they, on the other hand, believe that the mother has the right to choose whether or not to continue with the pregnancy. Animal life, today, has a greater value than human life. Or so it seems! What does the Bible say about animal rights? How could a vegan, who cares for plant and animal life, care less about human life? Finally, can a Christian vegan endorse abortion? Read more...

Do they feel the pain Of the cold instrument as it intrudes upon their first and only home? Do they feel it clutch at them? Why is the world's cruelty the first thing to hold their hand? Do they feel unwanted or unloved As pain rips through their tiny body? Do they feel alone? Do they feel cheated? Can You hear their cries in Heaven? ... Are You there with them through it all? Can You stop their suffering? Do You hold them close and whisper in their ear so they know love does exist? Do You tell them about those who mourn for them? Do You teach them to pray For all of us still on Earth? Just know that we love you always, Children who were taken too soon. Forgive us Father, we know not what we do.

An alternate ending to the episode: "The Burden Of Our Choices"...What if Tammy was able to convince her daughter Evangeline Miller to not abort her pregnancy?? Warning: Trigger topic, and mention of abuse. 13+ I do not own anything from NBC. All characters are property of Dick Wolf.
